$2.5 million dollar cocaine bust off Great Inagua by DEU and DEA

GREAT INAGUA, Bahamas - A joint operation between the RBPF Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) Officers and the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) officers resulted in the arrest of two (2) men on Thursday 30th August 2012. According to police reports, around 4:30pm, DEU and DEA officers conducted a Joint Operation on North West Cay, an Island North off Great Inagua, that led to the discovery of three hundred and forty-five (345) pounds of cocaine with a street value $2,520,000.00.

The two (2) men, a 44-year old Dominican and a 41-year old Turks Islander were arrested in connection with this large discovery and are assisting...

Coral Scientists Use New Model to Find Where Corals Are Most Likely to Survive Climate Change

ScienceDaily (Aug. 29, 2012) — Marine conservationists from the Wildlife Conservation Society working with other coral reef experts have identified heat-tolerant coral species living in locations with continuous background temperature variability as those having the best chance of surviving climate change, according to a new simplified method for measuring coral reef resilience.

Therefore, coral reefs with these characteristics should receive immediate attention for conserving this highly threatened ecosystem, according to the authors of a study appearing August 30 in the online journal PLoS ONE.

Bahamas rugby team competes at NACRA World Cup Qualifiers in Ottawa, Canada

The Bahamas National 7s rugby squad were in Ottawa, Canada last week from August 23rd to compete in the NACRA World Cup Qualifiers with matches on the 25th and 26th.  They finished the tournament in 8th place overall.

In the first match against Mexico they lost 14-0; their second match vs Canada was a 33-5 loss; and they won against Bermuda 17-12, a dvancing them to the quarterfinal round on Sunday.

It was so great to have the kids home for the summer! My two youngest were with me for a month or two, and with them came all of their friends, along with the driving, the sleepovers, the dishes, the shopping and more washing and cleaning than should be allowed.  But I love it and give it all for the children, my daughter and son are 16 and 18 years of age. 
I know full well they won't be coming down from Canada as often in the future.

U.S. Embassy donation to add to detection efforts at Her Majesty's Prison, Bahamas

NASSAU, The Bahamas --- Officials of Her Majesty’s Prisons, Fox Hill, said the donation of more than $50,000 worth of state-of-the-art corrections technology, including two cell phone locaters, by officials of the United States Embassy, Nassau, should reduce the flow of cell phones into the penal institution to a minimum.
