First Look- Whitney Young and Kenwood at U-High

Whitney Young freshman Alex Pei- 57.0 in the 400

U-High Invitation Only Meet A-Results

Whitney Young and Kenwood got in their first indoor meet of the season at U-High.

  • The most eye opening time was Whitney Young freshman Alex Pei running a 57.0 in the 400 meter run. As far as I know, that is the fastest freshman 400 time indoors for the CPS in two years. It looks like Whitney Young has a new talent to work with.
  • Whitney Young sophomore duo of Jonas Schmid-Querg(so) and Michale Perez(so) ran a 5:03 and a 5:05 in the 1600 meter run. Schmid-Querg is a new name, Perez was the sophomore city cross country individual champion last fall. For Whitney Young to find a new sophomore to run faster than Perez speaks volume of his talent.
  • Charlie Wiley(sr) of Kenwood runs a hand timed 52.0 in the 400. The 400 meter looks like it  going to be the deepest it has been in years for the CPS. By outdoors, Wiley looks to improve on his 50.80 he ran at last year's Robeson Sectionals.

Lane Falls Short Against Mt. Carmel

Dan Murray 2
Dan Murray(sr) of Lane Tech, despite a gaudy record of 35-7 could not make it to the finals and had to settle for a 3rd place finish.

Results of the Mt. Carmel Wrestling from the IHSA

1. Mt. Carmel-243.50
2. Lane Tech- 203.0
3. St. Rita- 187
4. DeLaSalle - 80.5
5. Kelly- 57
6. Hubbard- 44
7. Curie- 27
8. Schurz- 11

Lane's dream of doin better than their elite 8 appearance last year came to an abrupt end at regionals as Mt. Carmel out pointed Lane 243.50-203.

Lane did a lot of good things. They beat Catholic League wrestling power St.Rita- the Catholic League runner up's. Lane also advances several wrestlers to the Individual Sectional at DeLaSalle. But I am sure those positives do not cumatively make up for their team loss to Mt. Carmel.

Reader Says: "Give Some Love to Nick Flowers of Amundsen"

Nick Flowers(jr-G) and his close to 20 ppg has led Amundsen to a
16-6 overall record, a 8-1 Blue-North conference record, and a
