Tomorrow Kate is heading back to California, so I’m feeling a little down today. Amy and I have had an amazing two weeks with our best DIY buddy, and I find myself wishing her next project would be “how to build your own portal between Oakland and Brooklyn.” So to lift my spirits, I’m focusing on some good news: the geometric nails I wished existed DO!
After my post on decorative flower nails this week, I heard from Valerie and Annie who designed a gorgeous set of solid brass equilateral nails. I’m not sure how I missed these at ICFF, but I’m sure glad I’ve seen them now. They’re sold in sets of four and are about to be easily available online in less than two weeks. I’m going to update this post with their online shopping link as soon as they’re up, but I couldn’t resist sharing them now. How cute are these? I wish all nails came with decorative heads like this — they’re way more fun than regular nails. I’m looking into how hard it would be to make these as a custom order, but if you’re a metalsmith and need a fun project to work on, please please make some alphabet nails. Pretty please? Thanks to Annie and Valerie for sharing these with us, and stay tuned for an updated shopping link (they will be sold in sets of four) in less than two weeks. (Annie and Valerie’s collection also includes the beautiful angled brackets below. How gorgeous are those?)
Until Monday, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! xo, grace

I am not a voracious cheesecake eater, though I love tasting just one bite to feel the creaminess and perfect crust-to-filling ratio. But that doesn’t always happen, so until now, only Nigella Lawson’s Mango Cheesecake can tempt me to eat a whole slice. This week, Montreal-based art director and food stylist Christelle is trying to compromise my loyalty to Nigella with her recipe for Raspberry and Rosewater Cheesecake. It is the result of repeated attempts to recreate the perfect cheesecake she once tasted. Don’t worry if you can’t find fresh raspberries in your hemisphere — frozen raspberries work perfectly. If you prefer a cheesecake made with ricotta cheese, try Dani Fisher’s fabulous version from our archives. — Kristina

I love traveling, but particularly after fall’s 30-city book tour, sometimes I like reading about travel even more. So I’m particularly excited for Wayfare magazine, a brand new digital magazine devoted to travel. The editors, designers and contributors take a very design-centric approach to travel; the magazine isn’t just about where to go but also where to go to get inspired. When I was looking through the magazine, I got a little stuck trying to pick out my favorite article to describe. I love the piece by Kristy Carlson about raising her family in Africa. And another of my favorites, written by Meghan McEwen, uncovers places to stay in Sweden that are inspired by the forest — from tree hotels to forest huts. If you take a look at Wayfare‘s “Flight Crew” list, you might see some names you recognize. Wayfare art director/designer Anne Ditmeyer was the very first Design*Sponge intern in 2008 and has been contributing to the Sneak Peek column ever since. And her partner is art director/designer Lauren O’Neill, who designed the backdrop for our book event in Richmond. They did an amazing job creating an online magazine that doesn’t feel awkward. (My favorite feature is that you don’t constantly have to resize the text to read an article.) Reading this magazine feels a bit like having your best adventurous, design-minded girlfriends tell you where to go, what to see and where to stay. I’m hooked. — Amy Azzarito
