Included in today's post is a small demo on the process I used for painting "Pretty Boy". The support I used is gatorboard with a sand colorfix primer. "Pretty Boy" 5" x 7" pastel Beemanm@optimum.net Detail; I started with a general sketch of Pretty Boy...keeping it simple, not a lot of detail, just enough to indicate where the placement will be. Here I used a set of opaque gouache. I blocked in a little color to indicate major shapes. I began to redefine the outline.
Next, I started to block in with the pastels, beginning with the eye and beak wanting to get this placement right.
I decided not to use some of the background color I initially laid in but instead to glaze a little color over it, maybe letting some of the gouache show through . Also,I started to develop the breast, legs and tail.
I did a little more work on the background , rendered the eye ring, and adjusted the lights on the head and breast. Palette
