H.G. Sankarshan das Adhikari, USA: Monday 17 January 2011--Realize Your Full Human Potential--and--How to Not Take Birth as a Demigod?

A daily broadcast of the Ultimate Self Realization Course(tm) Monday 17 January 2011 The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Sri Krishna, and His eternal consort, Srimati Radharani are enjoying transcendental pastimes in the topmost planet of the spiritual world, Sri Goloka Vrindavan. They are beckoning us to rejoin them. Our Mission: To help everyone awaken their original Krishna consciousness, which is eternal, full of knowledge and full of bliss. Such a global awakening will, in one stroke, solve all the problems of the world society bringing in a new era of unprecedented peace and prosperity for all. May that day, which the world so desperately needs, come very soon. We request you to participate in this mission by reviving your dormant Krishna consciousness and assisting us in spreading this science all over the world. Dedicated with love to ISKCON Founder-Acharya: His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, our beloved spiritual master, and to you, our dear readers. Today's Thought: Realize Your Full Human Potential Uploaded from Santiago, Chile If you want to realize your full human potential, the first step is that you have to understand that you are not your body. If you continue to misidentify yourself with your material body thinking that it is you, you are doing nothing but holding up your progress. Therefore the first step for you to make in realizing your full potential is to solidly assert your eternal spiritual identity as a servant of God. And if you will then base all of your life's decisions on this platform of understanding, you will be able to actualize your full potential as a powerful, effective human being. Sankarshan Das Adhikari Teaching Full Realization of Human Potential Santiago, Chile--14 January 2011 http://www.backtohome.com/images/2010_Tour2/Santiago_Lecture2.JPG Answers According to the Vedic Version: Question: How to Not Take Birth as a Demigod? It is said that if one is successful in his devotional life he will go back to Godhead and that if he is not able to fully perfect his spiritual life he will either take birth again and continue his devotion from there onwards or he might get birth into a demigod's body to fulfill his material desires. So how should I practice devotion so that, if not completed in this birth, I will be sure to get birth in human form to continue with my devotional practice, so that I will not become a demigod and diverted from the path of bhakti? With regards, Your servant Ankur Answer: Always Keep Bhakti As Your Only Goal If you will seriously dedicate this life in Krishna's service, you will either go back to Godhead at the end of this lifetime, or if you still have material desires, you will get another material body to fulfill those desires and continue with your practice of Krishna consciousness. The key is to have only one goal in your life, to become a pure devotee of Lord Krishna. If you will keep this goal always in the forefront of your consciousness, you will either go back to Godhead or take birth as a devotee to continue your spiritual progress. Rupa Madhurya das, TX, USA: Lecture - Mukunda Datta das - Bhagavad-gita 4.9

Mukunda Datta das speaking on Bhagavad-gita Chapter 4, Text 9 at the Plano Janmastami celebration.

Dallas, TX
2010-09-04

Text 4.9

janma karma ca me divyam
evam yo vetti tattvatah
tyaktva deham punar janma
naiti mam eti so 'rjuna

PURPORT

The Lord's descent from His transcendental abode is already explained in the 6th verse. One who can understand the truth of the appearance of the Personality of Godhead is already liberated from material bondage, and therefore he returns to the kingdom of God immediately after quitting this present material body. Such liberation of the living entity from material bondage is not at all easy. The impersonalists and the yogis attain liberation only after much trouble and many, many births. Even then, the liberation they achieve -- merging into the impersonal brahmajyoti of the Lord -- is only partial, and there is the risk of returning to this material world. But the devotee, simply by understanding the transcendental nature of the body and activities of the Lord, attains the abode of the Lord after ending this body and does not run the risk of returning to this material world. In the Brahma-samhita (5.33) it is stated that the Lord has many, many forms and incarnations: advaitam acyutam anadim ananta-rupam. Although there are many transcendental forms of the Lord, they are still one and the same Supreme Personality of Godhead. One has to understand this fact with conviction, although it is incomprehensible to mundane scholars and empiric philosophers. As stated in the Vedas (Purusha-bodhini Upanishad):

eko devo nitya-lilanurakto
bhakta-vyapi hridy antar-atma

"The one Supreme Personality of Godhead is eternally engaged in many, many transcendental forms in relationships with His unalloyed devotees." This Vedic version is confirmed in this verse of the Gita personally by the Lord. He who accepts this truth on the strength of the authority of the Vedas and of the Supreme Personality of Godhead and who does not waste time in philosophical speculations attains the highest perfectional stage of liberation. Simply by accepting this truth on faith, one can, without a doubt, attain liberation. The Vedic version tat tvam asi is actually applied in this case. Anyone who understands Lord Krishna to be the Supreme, or who says unto the Lord "You are the same Supreme Brahman, the Personality of Godhead," is certainly liberated instantly, and consequently his entrance into the transcendental association of the Lord is guaranteed. In other words, such a faithful devotee of the Lord attains perfection, and this is confirmed by the following Vedic assertion:

tam eva viditvati mrityum eti
nanyah pantha vidyate 'yanaya

"One can attain the perfect stage of liberation from birth and death simply by knowing the Lord, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and there is no other way to achieve this perfection." (Svetasvatara Upanishad 3.8-) That there is no alternative means that anyone who does not understand Lord Krishna as the Supreme Personality of Godhead is surely in the mode of ignorance and consequently he will not attain salvation simply, so to speak, by licking the outer surface of the bottle of honey, or by interpreting the Bhagavad-gita according to mundane scholarship. Such empiric philosophers may assume very important roles in the material world, but they are not necessarily eligible for liberation. Such puffed-up mundane scholars have to wait for the causeless mercy of the devotee of the Lord. One should therefore cultivate Krishna consciousness with faith and knowledge, and in this way attain perfection.

She expertly picks madhavi flowers from Vrinda's fragrant forest and strings them into garlands soaked with Her devotion for Her Madhava.

Here's today's darsana:

Japa Group: Prayer For Chanting Better Japa

So everyday I make a prayer for chanting better japa. I make this as my daily practice. Thus I have incorporated into my day the simple prayer, here is the prayer.

“Oh my dear Lord Krsna, I will always chant my rounds in a mood of surrender. Krsna please help me to chant this way in a mood of complete dependence and surrender to the holy name.”

Akrura das, Gita Coaching: BEING HURT

Other people can hurt us to the extent we allow them to hurt us.

Our immediate reaction in moments when we are not understood, when our truth is not being accepted, is being hurt. This reaction is our own choice.

Actually, it is not that others hurt us. We hurt ourselves by how we choose to react.

Why we always have a tendency to fight for proving that our opinion is right?

This is redundant and brings a huge loss of energy.

I know what my thought is, I know that my motives are truthful and right and if the other person does not accept this, does not understand that, this is not our problem but his.

If I think like this, I cannot put myself in a situation to choose being hurt as a reaction. I will not react like that in that moment.

Prabhupada is sitting in his garden behind the Los Angeles temple. He’s sitting straight with no backrest. His look is solemn. Sitting in a jungle. I don’t know what he is saying but it doesn’t seem light and joking. He’s the founder-acarya and speaks in parampara. In fact, he isn’t speaking at all.

H.H. Satsvarupa das Goswami: 192

7:03 A.M.

In 1943 World War II, the invasion of Salerno, Italy, the Germans were waiting for the allies. They had their guns and bombs and mines ready and they opened fire. For a while it looked like they would be victorious. But then the momentum shifted and the allies took control and defeated the Gerrys and won the invasion. They suffered great losses. When Krishna invaded Bhaumasura, He didn’t lose a single soldier. He attacked flying on the back of Garuda with His wife Satyabhama riding on the bird’s back.

When the Americans defeated the Germans, the Italians were very grateful. They demonstrated effusive displays of love, kissing the soldiers and throwing flowers at them. They even overdid their celebration, throwing grapes and tomatoes at the soldiers. Some of the Americans were hurt by the flying objects.

When Bhaumasura was killed, mother Earth came before Krishna and made her obeisances and prayers. She begged Krishna to spare the life of Bhaumasura’s son and Krishna did so. He then entered Bhaumasura’s palace and rescued the 16,000 beautiful princesses who the demon had kidnapped. On first sight the princesses fell in love with Krishna and each one desired that He marry her. Krishna as the Supersoul knew their desires were pure, and He accepted them all as His wives. He selected clothes and jewelry for them and dispatched them on palanquins to Dvaraka. Krishna then went to Indraloka to return Indra’s mother, Aditi, the earrings that Bhaumasura had stolen from her. Indra was greatly indebted to Krishna who had saved his kingdom. But an incident happened that made Indra angry with Krishna. Satyabhama asked Krishna if she could have a branch of the Parijata tree that only grows in heaven. Previously Krishna had given a Parijata branch to Rukmini, and now Satyabhama wanted one of her own. “Why take just a branch?” Krishna said to her. “Take a whole tree.” And He uprooted a Parijata tree for Satyabhama. Indra did not react like the Italians who had been liberated by the Americans, with grateful joy. Although he owed his entire kingdom to the rescue of Krishna, Indra became angry and envious that Krishna took one Parijata tree. He blasphemed Krishna, calling Him a henpecked husband and even prepared his army to fight and take back the tree. I will tell more of this later.

I have to go back to the hospital for a colonoscopy procedure. They will stick a pipe up my anus and examine for polyps. I did this ten years ago, and there were only benign polyps. I was supposed to go again five years ago later, but I neglected it and now it has been ten years. I will go next week. First I have to undergo a thorough laxative treatment to remove all the stool from my colon and fast from solid food for one day. There are three possible outcomes from the examination. One is that they will find no polyps or only benign polyps. The second possibility is that they will find partly contaminated polyps which they will cut off. The third possibility is that I may have cancer and that will require complicated treatment. We were also examined for possible tuberculosis, and the result came out negative.

H.H. Satsvarupa das Goswami: Let Me Have Love for Krishna

www.sdgonline.org. SDGonline Daily updates

Give us music, give us
heartbeat and health.
I want to live longer.
Don’t pronounce me “positive”
on my colonoscopy test.

Breathing in and out is a sign that
you are alive and well.
They play with healthy lungs

for many years as long
as they don’t smoke or
take alcohol.

Playing for Krishna is the perfection
of music. Bhumi prays to the
Supreme Lord. She went
before Him, and said You are
the one Supreme Lord, please
spare the life of Bhagadatta,
my grandson. Krishna was kind and
did not kill the demon’s son.
He married the 16,000 princesses
and gave them each a palace. They
each tended to Him as if they were maids,
and they did all the cleaning and cooking
because they were enamored
with Him.

They were elegant princesses
but wanted to serve Him
like maids. He accepted their
offer because they loved Him.

16,000 princesses! They
had been captured by Bhaumasura
and rescued by Krishna.
He took them home on separate
palanquins
and treated them as
queens.

Krishna is the lord of all
life. But He likes to be
subordinate to His devotees.

Queen Kunti was puzzled
how mother Yasoda treated
her son, tying Him up
with rope and ruling
Him with motherly authority.

Krishna plays with His friends
and lets them defeat Him. He
chases after the gopis
like a love-struck lover.

The non-devotee thinks
He is an ordinary man, but
He is actually the Lord
of all creation.
They are mudhas to
think He is an ordinary jiva.
He is Krishna the supreme
ruler, the king of all the
species, the shining of the
Brahman effulgence. The
supreme who plays
no favorites but
loves His devotees
in a special way.

The son or disciple should accept the words of his spiritual master and father without hesitation. Whatever the father and the spiritual master order should be taken without argument: “Yes.” There should be no instance in which the disciple or the son says, “This is not correct. I cannot carry it out.” When he says that, he is fallen.

Japa Group: Improving Japa Habits P.1

We are discussing here on the Puri beach in 2008, Japa meditations. We are on page 31 - Radha Vallabha dasa, he gives three parts to reform japa. If we want to improve our japa and reform our japa - there are 3 parts.

First we should spend one week observing our japa. Because the idea of reform, it is called ‘Japa Reform’, reform means to improve. So you can’t improve something unless you recognize the need for improvement, right? If you think everything is fine, then you won't try to reform or improve. So for the first week… because we want to change our habits, our chanting maybe isn’t very good. We want to improve the quality of our chanting, the quantity and the quality.

So the first step of the reform, the first principle of changing a habit is to become conscious of your practice and determine what most needs to be reformed. You will see many bad habits, but to make best use of your energy it is important to focus on just one or two key habits at a time. If we try to change all our bad habits, we are going to fall on our face and wind up where you started. So, one has to be thoughtful in this practice of changing habit.
