If you haven’t noticed, things have been pretty quiet here on STS this afternoon and evening and I wanted to give you guys an update on what has been going on.
This afternoon around 1:00 I saw on Facebook (where we all get our most important news these days!) that there was a storm system headed into the Dallas/Fort Worth area that would likely be producing tornadoes. We’ve had this happen before in the past 5 years that we’ve lived here so I wasn’t too worried, but I still called Ryan and asked if he would consider going ahead and coming home. He came home right away and we watched on the DFW news as tornadoes swept through Fort Worth, Arlington, Lancaster, Dallas, and Mesquite.
We thought the worst of it was over, but Ryan came out of the bedroom where he was watching the news and said that we had to hurry and get in the bathroom because there was a tornado heading right in our direction within the next 15 minutes.
I tried to be as calm as I could so that the kids wouldn’t panic as I herded them into the guest bathroom (our only room without a window), put blankets in the tub for them to sit, and turned on Ratatouille for them to watch.
This whole time I’m checking Facebook in between everything to watch the status updates of my local friends and I see that yes indeed, there is a tornado coming right through our town on the edge of Dallas. Ryan and I make sure the kids are okay and then look out our front window and see this…

So… as one of my friends said on my Facebook wall today… instead of Surviving The Stores today we were Surviving The STORMS!
I am so so thankful that even though there was a lot of structural damage all across the metroplex, there have been NO fatalities reported!
We will be back to updating the site a little later this evening after the kids head to bed, but some things will definitely have to wait until tomorrow.
We will be praying for those of you in the north Louisiana and Arkansas areas too as this crazy storm heads your way.
If you feel like you would like to donate to help, PLEASE be aware of scam artists that come out of the woodwork during times like these. Donate only to local churches, or relief efforts that you know are trustworthy (we typically will give to Samaritan’s Purse since they have a great US disaster relief ministry).
I will keep you guys updated (most likely on Facebook) and if you know of any churches in the areas that were affected that are accepting donations, please let us know in the comments below!
