Rutgers researchers and international collaborators have introduced a novel method for identifying the crucial set of gut microbes commonly found in humans, opening innovative opportunities for precision nutrition and personalized therapies for managing chronic diseases associated with gut microbiome imbalances. A study by Rutgers researchers has shown that military veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder who participated in a program caring for horses, experienced an improved mental outlook and easing of symptoms, potentially opening a new frontier in mental health treatment. Read more

Janice McDonnell, a collaborating partner of the Center for Advancing Research Impact in Society (ARIS) awarded a $1.1 million NSF grant, led a Rutgers team that built the ARIS Broader Impacts Toolkit to help researchers define how their investigation engages communities and advances community benefits. Led by principal investigator, Aparna Zama, the grant-funded RU-VETLEAP aims to increase the number of Animal Science students from underrepresented communities accepted into DVM programs and careers in USDA mission-critical areas of food, agriculture, natural resources, and human sciences. Plant science undergraduate program director Nrupali Patel leads the USDA-funded NextGen experiential learning program, which enables two-year community college students to conduct research with Plant Biology scientists, providing an excellent model for them to explore agriculture-related careers. Memoriam

The vertical bifacial solar panel array—the first such installation in New Jerse—​​​​​​​was unveiled on September 30 at the Rutgers University Animal Farm and will enable researchers to test whether modern farming and livestock practices can be combined with generating solar energy. Read more
