Rutgers Gardens student horticulturists and alumni collaborated on an award-winning exhibit at the North Jersey Orchid Society Show, highlighting student talent and hands-on learning. Coordinated by greenhouse staff, the display showcased Floriculture Greenhouse plants and fostered engagement with the broader orchid-growing community. Read more

Since it's inception in 2022, the Apprenticeship in Shellfish Aquaculture Program, a collaboration involving Rutgers and industry partners, has engaged more than 1,500 high school students, connecting them with businesses to learn about oyster farming and receive on-the-job training. Read More

Rutgers marine scientists and research collaborators find that Antarctic glacier meltwater provides far less iron than expected, undermining iron fertilization theory that algae blooms remove CO₂, potentially weakening natural climate mitigation and altering climate model predictions. Read more

Rutgers scientists developed the Ecological Network Balance Index, measuring how gut microbes compete and cooperate. The index distinguishes healthy guts from diseased ones, and tracks progression of some illnesses, including colorectal cancer, by measuring how gut bacteria interact with one another. Read more

Mary Whelan, associate professor with the Department of Environmental Sciences, is a lead author of a collaborative study among Rutgers, NASA and other institutions that outlines an integrated approach to greenhouse gas and wind observations to support effective climate mitigation strategies and informed decision-making.
