Distinguished Professor Debashish Bhattacharya received the Rutgers Board of Trustees Award for Excellence in Research, recognizing his outstanding scholarly contributions. Through pioneering work in evolutionary genomics, his laboratory advances understanding of threatened marine species and develops tools to assess ecosystem health and resilience. Read more

Associate Extension Specialist Brooke Maslo has been named the inaugural holder of the Joanna Burger Endowed Legacy Professorship, the first established within SEBS. The professorship will support her research on environmental change, species behavior, and the factors that help ecosystems adapt and thrive. Read more

SEBS/NJAES faculty completed the inaugural Charting Your Research Pathway workshop series hosted by the SEBS/NJAES Office of Research. The goal was to strengthen research plans, explore funding opportunities, foster collaboration, and advance convergence research to address complex challenges. Read more

Artist-in-Residence in the Chrysler Herbarium, Sue Huang, collaborates with SEBS faculty and Rutgers graduate students on “Bodies of Flora,” an interdisciplinary project that blends plant biology, history, design, and AI to digitally reconstruct extinct New Jersey plant species. Read more

A living reef system designed to grow stronger over time is showing early success in protecting coastlines. Research published by an international team that included nine Rutgers scientists found the hybrid reef reduced wave power by more than 90 percent in early tests, demonstrating its potential as a nature-based coastal defense. The CCAA Annual Alumni Fish Fry returns to Rutgers Gardens on July 25, bringing together SEBS, Cook, CAES, and AG alumni for food, fellowship, and great school spirit. Early-bird registration is now open. Milestone reunion classes are encouraged to celebrate at the fish fry.
