Tonight's Saturday Night Cinema is a taut, tough to watch film, Look Back in Anger. And with this film began the British realism movement. Richard Burton plays "the principal character in this ferocious account of the
emotional vandalism committed by what is popularly known as an 'angry
young man.'" Burton is, as always, larger than life. He is scary (even to most adults) juxtaposed to Claire Bloom's sweet, ethereal (pathetic) sweetness as the abused mistress. Burton is delicious to watch, He is so damn manly and smoldering hot that even when he is cast a total bastard, you can't help but lust after the brute.
Love affair: Richard Burton and Claire Bloom in 'Look Back in Anger' (1959)
On a side note, Burton and Bloom had a torrid five-year affair. It adds a certain titillation for the viewer (at least it did for me. )
The NY Times film review: Look Back in Anger (1958) By Bosley Crowther, September 16, 1959
THE fury and hate that John Osborne was able to pack into a flow of
violent words in his stage play, "Look Back in Anger," are not only
matched but also documented in the film that the original stage
director, Tony Richardson, has made from that vicious play.
In a rush of pictorial reinforcement that leads one to suspect Mr.
Richardson was just itching for the cinema medium to fill the background
and heighten the fever of the play, the passion of the characters now
comes at you through the drab and depressing milieu of a genuine British
midlands city and the sweatiness of an ugly slum.
The film, produced in England by Harry Saltzman, opened here last
night at the Forum and Baronet Theatres with benefit showings for the
March of Dimes.
In our eyes, the principal character in this ferocious account of the
emotional vandalism committed by what is popularly known as an "angry
young man" is still a conventional weakling, a routine crybaby who
cannot quite cope with the problems of a tough environment and, so,
vents his spleen in nasty words. And the two women who let him run over
them, his wife and his mistress, still seem to us to be strangely
gullible creatures, a little self-piteous themselves.
But, at least, in this caca-phonic picture, which has a sort of
metallic clatter and bang and a throbbing, eccentric jazz tempo that is
picked up from time to time on the sound track. Mr. Richardson does
provide us with a sense of the dismal atmosphere the prevalence of
social stagnation, that helps to frustrate our young man.
The long accumulation of middle-class smugness against which he
fitfully rebels by blowing a jazz trumpet at a Saturday-night hot spot
and blasting the Sabbath dawn is brilliantly illustrated by shots of
people going to church in the rain and by glimpses of rows of ugly
houses and streets in which grimy youngsters play. And the piteousness
of his occupation as the keeper of a candy stall is conveyed in a
stinging little drama of discord with the market superintendent.
Mr. Richardson uses his camera in a hard, crisp documentary style
that recalls the way Carol Reed used one in his memorable "The Stars
Look Down."
In getting performances from his actors, Mr. Richardson repeats the
quality of the play. Richard Burton is frenzied to the point of mania as
the husband who hates the agony of life. His tirades are eloquent but
tiring, his breast beatings are dramatic but dull and his occasional
lapses into sadness are pathetic but endurable.
Mary Ure make a touching slavey as his nerve jangled, fear-cluttered
wife, representing the female frustration that can come in a tortured
atmosphere. And Claire Bloom is delightful, sharp and catty as the
neighboring friend who won't take the blowhard's guff—until, by a
curious reversal, she succumbs to his pathos and falls in love with him.
Gary Raymond, as a genial, weakling Welsh friend, is the most
agreeable actor in the film, and Edith Evans is amusing but mystifying
as an ancient huckster's wife.
The jazz score provided by Chris Barber and his band and the trumpet
playing Pat Halcox does on behalf of Mr. Burton are exciting and helpful
to the whole.

The media (and even some blogs) are descrbing this as "sectarina". It's not. It's Islamic supremacism. It's jihad. It's persecuting, oppressing and slaughtering Christians under the sharia.
One person has died and dozens injured in clashes between
Muslims and Coptic Christians in Egypt’s north coast city of
Alexandria, the Ahram Arabic news website reported.
Clashes erupted Friday night in Al-Geish Street in western Alexandria,
after a fight started between two young men, one Copt and the other
Muslim, when the Copt allegedly sexually harassed the latter’s sister.
The parties involved in the fight reportedly used Molotov cocktails and
machine guns.
The incident left one person, Sherif Sedki Saad, dead by a heart-attack during the clashes, and dozens others injured.
Nasser El-Abd, Alexandria’s investigations director, said that
Central Security Forces prevented the crowds from storming into Al-Azraa
Church in Al-Geish Street where clashes have been taking place.
Security forces have also spread in the area to restore order.
According to Reuters, police arrested eight people after two hours of fighting.
The situation is currently reported to be calm in the area.
I understand there were a number of Rabbis who opposed the letter -- where are they? And where is their public disavowal? SPEAK. The should be ashamed that they are being lauded by vicious Muslim Brotherhood groups like Hamas-CAIR.
I received this letter from Lt Col Howard who used to be a frequent
contributor to Israpundit and subsequently kept in touch with me.
He arranged for this letter to be sent to each rabbi by Dr Laitin.
He also wrote, “Ted your contributions are very important for the
survival of Israel. I am glad to be able to play a small roll in your
efforts.

I have been deeply involved in the Islamic world for more than 30
years. I have taught, advised and mentored more than 1,000 Muslim
graduate students in public health, engineering, and economics. I have
advised the militaries of Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia. I was vice
chief of the Lebanon desk. My specialty was Beirut. Several of my former
students run the largest newsgathering/news reporting organization in
the Islamic world.
One of my close associates, very anti-Israel, was just appointed by
Pres. Obama as his special representative and chief advisor for
Afghanistan and Pakistan and to advise him on negotiations with Iran.
From the inside of the administration I observed the very anti-Israel
orientation of the president’s principal advisors. My Palestinian
authority prime security contact just publicly called for the nuclear
annihilation of Israel. One of my senior associates (a retired U.S. Army
Maj. Gen.) is also a Holocaust survivor from Lithuania. He emphasizes
that when they say they’re going to kill you…. believe them. And I
believe that my Palestinian associate who has a position of power within
the Fatah government and is well-connected with Hamas believes fully in
the annihilation of every Jew on earth.
I support Pamela Geller. I agree with the letter written to you

Jihadist on board the Gaza flotilla holding a knife after Israel Navy commandos boarded their ship on May 31, 2010.
The armed jihad warship flotilla's mission was to break the arms blockade to jihadists in Gaza. It was an act of war. It was designed to be a huge huge public relations diaster for Israel. And it was. The
Jihad Flotillas: Melding Propaganda with Violence, Pamela Geller, Breitbart: "it joined propaganda together with violence,
usually conducted separately, to wage war."
Some of the weapons found on the Mavi Maramara
On May 31st,
2010, a flotilla of ships organized by the Free Gaza Movement and the
Turkish IHH group attempted to break Israel’s naval blockade of the Gaza
Strip. Five of the ships were commandeered peacefully by the Israeli
Navy and re-routed to Ashdod. The supplies they carried were delivered
overland to Gaza after a security inspection. (source: IP)
The Mavi
Marmara described itself as peaceful despite the guns, knives and other
weapons it was carrying to Hamas-controlled Gaza.
As
Israeli naval commandos abseiled onto the deck of the fourth and
largest ship, the Mavi Marmara, they were attacked by IHH activists
armed with knives, clubs and at least two pistols. Three of the
commandos were badly wounded and dragged below deck. Others were injured
as they were thrown from the upper deck into the sea. The Israeli
commandos had been ordered to take the ship without using lethal force
and were issued primarily with stun guns. In response to the violence
that greeted them and fearing for their lives, the commandos were
ordered to open fire. In the ensuing melee, nine IHH activists were
killed.
The
Turkel Committee, an independent public inquiry with international
observers established by the Israeli government to examine events aboard
the Mavi Marmara in May 2010, found that the Israeli Navy acted in
accordance with international law and had little choice but to react as
they did when faced with the violent resistance of the IHH activists on
board.
“Each
Israeli soldier was attacked as they entered the ship,” Turkel said.
Three of the soldiers were dragged into the ship’s hold and were
prevented from receiving “humanitarian” medical attention.
Who can forget the rabid ululating chanting of the Islamic anthem of Jewish genocidal aspirations, Khaibar, Khaibar,
invoking the killing of Jews? The name Khaibar, mentioned in the
battle cry, was the last Jewish village defeated by Muhammad's army in
628. The battle marked the end of Jewish presence in Arabia. There are
Muslims who see that as a precursor for future wars against Jews. At
gatherings and rallies of extremists, this chant is often heard as a
annihilationist threat to Jews, telling them to expect to be defeated
and killed again by Muslims.
IDF soldiers who boarded the Mavi Marmara ship in order to enforce
the maritime closure on Gaza, were met with a violent mob armed with
clubs, slingshots, saws, knives, and used live fire against the IDF
soldiers. Pictured here: Slingshots found on the Mavi Marmara ship with Islamic terrorist group "Hizbullah" written on it.
Obama has these blood thirsty savages to the White House. You have to wonder if America will ever recover from his presidency.
"Wait Until You Hear Who the Turkish Prime Minister Reportedly
Invited to Join His Entourage During U.S. Visit," by Sharona Schwartz
for The Blaze, May 17 (thanks to Maxwell):
According to Turkish media,
the father of one of the radical Islamist activists killed in Israel’s
raid on the Mavi Marmara in 2010 (the Gaza flotilla) was included as an
invited guest in the prime minister’s delegation in the hopes he might
be able to meet President Barack Obama.
Furkan Dogan, a 19-year-old with both
Turkish and U.S. citizenship, joined the Gaza flotilla where he
expressed his desire for “martyrdom.” His father now wants the U.S.
government to sue Israel over the raid in which the IDF says its forces
were defending themselves from what appeared to them to be an organized
attack launched by passengers armed with knives and metal bars as the
commandos boarded the ship.
Pigs must be flying. The Washington Post actually removed their lips from Morsi's sphincter for a moment to report on the vicious persecution and oppression of Christians in Egypt. Of course, they try to blame the ultra-super-duper-'conservative' Salafis when, in fact, it is sharia. It is Islamic law. In the next sentence the WaPo admits that, "criminalizing blasphemy was enshrined in the country’s Islamist-backed constitution that was adopted in December." Uh, so it's not just the religious Salafis imposing and enforcing the sharia.
Further, despite WaPo's attempts to equivocate, there is no comparison between the status of Christians before and after Mubarak. WaPo's misleading reportage on this further harms their already diminished journalistic credibility. Ask non-Muslims living in Egypt if they'd like Mubarak back. In. a. heartbeat.
The Washington Post continually self-enforces the sharia. They scrub and
whitewash the most brutal and extreme ideology on the face of the earth. Worse, they smear, demonize and marginalize the few who speak out against
these horrific human rights abuses. It is because of the tacit support
of Western media and the political elite that these savages have risen from the ashes where they so rightfully belong.
(Ibrahim Zayed/ Associated Press ) - Abdel-Nour, the father
of 24-year-old school teacher Dimyana Abdel-Nour, who is accused of
insulting Islam while teaching fourth graders history of religions,
speaks on the phone to a live television show about his daughter from
his home in southern Egypt’s ancient city of Luxor, Egypt, Thursday, May
16, 2013. Freed on Tuesday on a 20,000-pound (nearly 3,000 dollars)
bail after nearly a week in detention, Abdel-Nour is due to stand trial
later this month. Criminalizing blasphemy was enshrined in the country’s
new Islamist-backed constitution adopted in December.
"Coptic Christian latest target of blasphemy frenzy under Islamist-ruled Egypt"
Washinton Post, May 18, 2013
CAIRO — The pale, young Christian
woman sat handcuffed in the courtroom, accused of insulting Islam while
teaching history of religions to fourth-graders. A team of Islamist
lawyers with long beards sang in unison, “All except the Prophet
Muhammad.”
The case against Dimyana Abdel-Nour in southern Egypt’s ancient
city of Luxor began when parents of three of her pupils claimed that
their children, aged 10, complained their teacher showed disgust when
she spoke of Islam in class. According to the parents, Abdel-Nour, 24,
told the children that Pope Shenouda, who led the Egyptian Coptic Church
until his death last year, was better than the Prophet Muhammad.
Blasphemy charges were not uncommon in Egypt under the
now-ousted autocrat Hosni Mubarak’s regime, but there has been a surge
in such cases in recent months, according to rights activists. The trend
is widely seen as a reflection of the growing power and confidence of
Islamists, particularly the ultraconservative Salafis.
“Salafis
are the engineers of these stories,” said Abdel-Hamid Hassan, a Muslim
and the head of the parents’ council at the primary school where
Abdel-Nour teaches. Hassan’s daughter was among several students who
denied any wrongdoing by Abdel-Nour.
“If the pope himself came
here from the Vatican and tried to spread Christianity among us, he
would fail. We learn about our religion starting from the age of 5,” he
said, alluding to the allegation against Abdel-Nour, since withdrawn, of
“spreading Christianity.”
Criminalizing blasphemy was enshrined in the country’s Islamist-backed constitution that was adopted in December.
Writers,
activists and even a famous television comedian have been accused of
blasphemy since then. But Christians seem to be the favorite target of
Islamist prosecutors. Their fragile cases — the main basis of the case
against Abdel-Nour’s case the testimony of children — are greeted with
sympathy from courtroom judges with their own religious bias or who fear
the wrath of Islamists, according to activists.
The result is a
growing number of Egyptians, including many Christians, who have been
convicted and sent to prison for blasphemy.
In at least one
celebrated case, the offense was clearly provocative: Seven Coptic
Christians living in the United States received death sentences in
absentia for producing an anti-Islam film that sparked waves of protests
by ultraconservative Islamists in front of U.S. embassies across the
Arab world on Sept. 11, 2012.
But rights groups say the vast majority of blasphemy cases are merely attempts by Islamists to crack down on their opponents.
“Islamists are using the law to hunt down critics to the Muslim
Brotherhood, and the Christians are the weakest,” said Medhat Klada, a
Switzerland-based Coptic Christian activist whose organization Copts
United tracks such cases. “The numbers of Christians implicated is
unprecedented,” he added.
Many believe that restrictions on
freedoms are more severe under Mohammed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood,
Egypt’s first freely elected president, than during his predecessor’s
29-year reign.
The jihadi media
company Fursan Al-Balagh has published the third issue of its Al-Balagh magazine
(dated April-May 2013). The issue focuses mainly on anti-France incitement, in
response to that country's involvement in North Mali.
Head Of AQIM
Political Committee: The War With France Will Continue Until The Day Of
Judgment
The magazine
includes an article by Ahmad Abu 'Abdallah, head of the political committee of
Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) and of its media company, Al-Andalus.
The article, titled "What Is Behind the French Occupation of North
Mali," calls on Muslims to unite forces and thwart the French
"Crusader attack" on Muslims in North Mali. It accuses France of
looting the treasures of Muslim Africa and warns that replacing the French
troops with UN forces is only a means of lending international legitimacy to
the ongoing "Crusader occupation" of the land. Finally, it promises
that "the Muslims will restore their glory, sovereignty, and property,
after hanging the last occupier by the intestines of the last collaborator
ruler" and that the war against the French will continue until the Day of
Judgment. Following are excerpts from the article:
Abu 'Abdallah starts
by urging Muslims to unite forces in the war on "Western hegemony and the
Crusader attack" against the Islamic ummah, and to start this war with a
campaign to defend Mali. This is in order to put "international pressure
on the exploitative, aggressive France and its beastlike partners, so that they
are faced with only two options: to [fight] a losing war in which they will
bleed to death, or to retreat in defeat, [after which] they will never even
consider occupying [another] Muslim country."
Are Obama's Islamic supremacists in charge at CIA and FBI still contending that these jihad bombers "acted alone"? No jihadist acts alone -- they stand with an army of millions.
How do these jihadists get into the country but the doctor who helped us get Bin Laden is refused? Obama's pro-jihadist policies.
Obama's dismantling of counter-terror programs and the scrubbing of counter-terror material has left this nation completely vulnerable, waiting for the next bomb to drop.
"Boston jihad murderer went target shooting in Manchester, NH, met repeatedly with Chechen rebel there" May, 18, 2013 (thanks to Robert Spencer)
Apparently the Boston jihad
mass murderer Tamerlan Tsarnaev practiced shooting in New Hampshire,
perhaps in preparation for a different kind of jihad attack. "FBI
questions former Chechen rebel living in Manchester about repeated
meetings with Boston bomber," by Pat Grossmith for the New Hampshire Union Leader, May 16:
MANCHESTER - Boston Marathon suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev went
target shooting at a Manchester firing range and met up with an exiled
former Chechen rebel living in the Queen City a month before the attack
that killed three and wounded more than 260, according to a Voice of
America report.
FBI agents on Tuesday searched the Manchester home of
Chechnya native Musa Khadzhimuratov, and examined the hard drives on his
computers, VOA reported. Police in Manchester confirmed the FBI agents
searched Khadzhimuratov's home, according to the story, but
Manchester Police Chief David J. Mara said police will not confirm
anything because it is not their case.
The FBI, Mara said, also are not commenting on the matter.
At the Manchester apartment building where Khadzhimuratov lives, a
woman responding to the buzzer by intercom said Khadzhimuratov was not
home and will not be talking to reporters.
A resident who lives at the Eastern Avenue apartment complex said the
FBI showed up about 8 a.m. Tuesday and did not leave until late in the
afternoon.
Agents dressed in suits were posted at the front and back entrance to
the Eastern Avenue apartment building at Hillview Apartments,
preventing people from entering the building, she said.
About six other agents wearing white jumpsuits and black gloves
entered the apartment where Khadzhimuratov lives with his wife, her
parents and two or three children.
"I thought they were exterminators," said the resident. She only
realized they were FBI after someone overheard an agent telling one of
Khadzhimuratov's children, "Don't get scared. We're FBI and we're going
to talk to your father."
The Khadzhimuratovs keep to themselves, the resident said, and do no
socialize with other tenants. She thought his wife works but does not
believe Khadzhimuratov is employed. He is paralyzed from being shot in
the back in his native Chechnya.
Khadzhimuratov told a VOA reporter that FBI agents went to his home
Tuesday with search warrants and took DNA sample and his fingerprints.
He said he repeatedly met with Tsarnaev over the past several years
and that the FBI first questioned him on April 29, two weeks after the
deadly attack. Tsarnaev died in a shootout with police while his
brother, Dzhokhar, 19, was wounded and later captured.
Khadzhimuratov told the VOA reporter FBI agents asked him about
Tsarnaev's target shooting at a Manchester firing range, which was
linked to http://www.gunsnh.com/index.php – the home page for the
Manchester Firing Line Range.
Cliff Ellston, compliance officer for the firing range, said it is the company's policy not to talk to the media.
The FBI also wanted to know about Tsarnaev's purchase of large
amounts of fireworks from a Seabrook store on Feb. 6, Khadzhimuratov
told VOA.
He said Tsarnaev visited him about three to four weeks before the
bombings. He said he thinks the FBI believes he tried to help him when
he was up in New Hampshire but he denied doing that or having any
involvement in the bombings.
The FBI, he said, told him he was not a suspect in the Boston bombing case.
He said he came to the United States from Chechnya in 2004 through a
United Nations program. He is paralyzed from the waist down from gunshot
wounds suffered in Chechnya in 2001, according to the VOA article.
He said he first met Tsarnaev seven years ago at the annual meeting
of the Chechen Society of Boston. Tsarnaev visited him three times in
Manchester and once came with his wife and child.
He told VOA he never discussed Tsarnaev's Islam beliefs with him or any politics.
And in a New York Times puff piece trying to portray Khadzhimuratov as a victim, we get these details showing his allegiances:
Mr. Khadzhimuratov, 36, said he understood why investigators
would want to take a look at him. Tamerlan Tsarnaev, along with his
wife and daughter, stopped by Mr. Khadzhimuratov’s apartment a few weeks
before the bombing, the last of several encounters. And long before
coming to the United States in 2004, Mr. Khadzhimuratov was a bodyguard
for Akhmed Zakayev, a prominent secular Chechen separatist leader who
now lives in London....
Mr. Khadzhimuratov has been turned down repeatedly for a green card
because of his previous association with the Chechen rebels, though his
wife is an American citizen. Among the videos archived on Mr.
Khadzhimuratov’s Russian YouTube page were a few that touched on
Caucasus insurgency, including addresses by two militant leaders, Doku K. Umarov and Said Buryatsky, and video of a sniper attack on the police by militants in Dagestan.
Where are the church leaders in the West? Where are the Christians in defense of their people? Where is the enemedia? Handwringing on imaginary islamophobia.
CAIRO, Egypt (Morning Star News) – A Moroccan fatwa calling
for the execution of those who leave Islam has left many Christian
converts in turmoil.
There is still much debate over how the fatwa, which only recently
came to light after the government’s top authority on Islam issued it
last year, could change laws in Morocco. But a Moroccan Christian
convert active in the house church movement said many former Muslims who
are now Christians fear for their lives.
“The fatwa showed us that our country is still living in the old
centuries – no freedom, no democracy,” he said. “Unfortunately, we feel
that we aren’t protected. We can be arrested or now even killed any time
and everywhere.”
The Marrakech resident, who requested anonymity, said many Moroccan converts feel the same way.
“The majority of the Christian Moroccan leaders have the same
feeling,” he said. “We are more followed now by the secret police than
before. Only the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ gives us courage and
peace.”
The governmental High Council of Ulemas, the highest religious
authority in Morocco, issued the ruling last year, but only released it
in April upon request of the government’s Delegation for Human Rights of
Morocco, according to Arabic-language daily Akhbar al-Youm. The
human rights delegation was seeking clarification on the Islamic stance
on freedom of religion. But Mahjoub El Hiba, a senior human rights
official in the government, denied there was any such request to the
Moroccan Press Agency, Morocco’s official government news service.
In a publication explaining its ruling, the high council said it
based its decision in part on verses from the Koran, and in part on
verses from the Hadith – one that quotes Muhammad, Islam’s prophet, as
saying, “If somebody [a Muslim] discards his religion, kill him.” (Sahih
al-Bukhari 3017)
Islamic scholars use the Hadith, also known as the “Sayings and Deeds
of the Prophet,” along with the Koran as a basis for determining sharia
(Islamic law).
Members of the high council are appointed by the Ministry of
Religious Endowments and Islamic Affairs, which is led at least in
theory by King Mohammed VI. But the high councilis essentially
an advisory body, has no connection to Morocco’s criminal judicial
system and cannot enforce its ruling. Whether the fatwa will have any
effect on Moroccan criminal law remains to be seen – there are too many
variables, said a representative of Middle East Concern, an advocacy
group for persecuted Christians.
ZANZIBAR,
Tanzania (Morning Star News) – Islamic extremist attacks
and land grabs on this
semi-autonomous island off the
coast of Tanzania have
continued unabated even as
violence has increased on the
mainland.
The May 5 bombing of St.
Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church
in Arusha killed a 45-year-old
woman, a 16-year-old boy and a
12-year-old girl. Of the two
Tanzanians and four foreigners
arrested – now officially
identified as one from Saudi
Arabia and three from the
United Arab Emirates – only
one Tanzanian national
reportedly remains in custody
as a suspect.
While Islamic extremist
activity has increased in
Tanzania, Christians on the
Zanzibar archipelago have
recently suffered attacks by
Islamists and the separatist
group Uamsho (Re-awakening).
Uamsho, the Association for
Islamic Mobilization and
Propagation, has issued
explicit threats to Christians
on Zanzibar Island since
October 2012.
At midnight on April 20,
Islamic extremists in Kianga,
16 kilometers (11 miles) from
Zanzibar City, demolished most
of the Pool of Siloam church
building, a church leader
said. Three suspects were
arrested, only to be released
after three days.
“When we tried to follow up
the case, we found out that
some of the information
concerning the pulling down of
the church was missing,”
church pastor Israel Baraka
Elijah told Morning Star News.
“Hence, we decided to give up
all together.”
Damages were estimated at
$2,500, he added. Muslim
extremists had attacked the
church building before,
setting part of it on fire on
Feb. 19 and battering it with
sledge hammers in November
2011.
Buildings aren’t the only
targets. Suspected Islamic
extremists on Feb. 17 shot and
killed the Rev. Evaristus
Mushi, a 56-year-old Roman
Catholic priest, in the Mtoni
area outside Zanzibar City.
The murder came nearly two
months after the Christmas Day
shooting of another Catholic
priest, the Rev. Ambrose
Mkenda, that seriously injured
him. Uamsho had left leaflets
threatening to kill church
leaders of the Roman Catholic,
Anglican, Tanzania Assemblies
of God and Pentecostal Church
denominations.
The
Islamist group is fighting for
full autonomy of the Zanzibar
archipelago; it arose after
Zanzibar’s primary opposition,
the Civic United Front, formed
a government with the ruling
Chama Cha Mapinduzi party in
2010.
This is consistent with Islamic teaching and goes back to Muhammad, "the perfect model." The Qur'an sanction of sex slavery:
If you fear that you will not act justly towards the
orphans, marry such women as seem good to you, two, three, four; but if
you fear you will not be equitable, then only one, or what your right hands own; so it is likelier you will not be partial. (Qur'an 4:3)
Nigeria's
President Goodluck Jonathan has declared a state of emergency in three
north-eastern states as militant Islamists intensify their offensive
against the government.
The insurgency, led by Boko Haram, has killed some 2,000
people since 2009. It has spread across the mainly Muslim north and
central Nigeria.
With the attacks becoming increasingly sophisticated, there
is growing concern that Boko Haram is receiving backing from
al-Qaeda-linked militants in other countries.
Here, BBC Africa's Farouk Chothia looks at the changing nature of the conflict.
First large-scale incursion: May 2013
Boko Haram has increased its focus on smaller towns in
north-eastern Nigeria in recent months after the military drove many of
its fighters out of Maiduguri - the capital of Borno state, which was
the group's main base.
Boko Haram militants have since infiltrated nearby towns, with little resistance from the army.
In a well-planned attack on 7 May 2013 in Bama, some 70km (44
miles) from Maiduguri, about 200 heavily armed men stormed a military
barracks, police station and government buildings.
Fifty-five people were killed and 105 prisoners were freed in
the raids. Significantly, the militants launched the attack in armoured
vehicles mounted with machine guns.
It suggests that they are becoming better-resourced and they
can adapt to the changing terrain. Easy to use motorcycles are the
trademark for Boko Haram attacks in cities.
The military attacked Baga, near Chad's border, where militants had reportedly built up a presence
The Bama violence came a few weeks after Boko Haram attacked a
military patrol in Baga, a nearby town in which it is said to have also
built a presence, forcibly recruiting youth into its ranks.
The military retaliated by launching a raid on the town, accusing residents of harbouring the militants.
Nearly 200 people died in the raid, and thousands of
buildings were destroyed, leading to claims by rights groups that the
military had used excessive force - an allegation it has repeatedly
faced as it tries to quell the insurgency launched in 2009.
The army denied the allegation, and blamed Boko Haram for the deaths of 37 people.
First 'slaves captured': May 2013
Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau released a video on 13 May
2013, saying Boko Haram had taken women and children - including teenage
girls - hostage in response to the arrest of its members' wives and
children.
It is unclear whether the hostages are the relatives of government officials or civilians.
Mr Shekau said the hostages would be treated as "slaves",
fuelling concern that Boko Haram is adhering to the ancient Islamic
belief that women captured during war are slaves with whom their
"masters" can have sex.

Ron Thompson is absolutely right. Those who seek to differentiate
between Islam and Islamism are engaging in massive self-deception which
could ultimately endanger the existence of western civilization itslef.
There is no such thing called Islamism or moderate Islam. There is only
one thing which is rightly called Islam. Any person who seeks to make
bogus distinctions between moderate Islam, Islamism and real hard-core
Islam can jusitifiably be accused of becoming an intellectual dhimmi.
... Daniel Pipes is ... thinking that 'moderate' Muslims can be
co-opted by the civilized West to confront the real Muslims following
pure, unadulterated Islam. Most moderate Muslims only appear so to the
civilized western man. In fact, most moderate Muslims are on the same
intellectual wavelength as the jihadis. They have only chosen to be more
soft-spoken and liberal in appearance to help advance the ultimate goal
of Islam which they share with the jihadis which is, global conquest.
Islam must be brutally exposed and intellectually defeated if the West
-- that is a big if -- wishes to avoid a costly and bloody military
confrontation with Islam, as seems likely in the future.
Further proof of Obama's pro-jihad domestic and foreign policies. Al Harbi is allowed into the country. The Boston bombers, the Christmas underwear bomber..... those who want to kill us and destroy our very way of life are welcomed. Those persecuted under the sharia are left to a fate worse than and including death. That is not the American way.
The jailed doctor who helped the U.S. track down Usama bin
Laden was convicted by a tribal court on bogus charges, according to a
classified Pakistani government report.
Portions of the voluminous 357-page Abbottobad Commission Report,
which has yet to be made public and were obtained exclusively by Fox
News, acknowledge Dr. Shakil Afridi’s conviction last year by a
government-sponsored Jirga has undermined Pakistan’s credibility. The
report calls for Afridi to be given a new trial.
The report also claims Afridi joined the CIA search for Bin Laden
five years ago, while he was staying in the U.S. with a cousin.
According to the report, Afridi applied for asylum after a terrorist
group, Lashkar-e-Islam, stepped up its operations in Pakistan's lawless
tribal belt.
Afridi was reportedly kidnapped by the group in 2008 and released
after his family paid a $10,000 ransom. After helping the CIA pinpoint
the terror mastermind just prior to the 2011 raid in which Navy SEALs
killed Bin laden, Afridi was arrested and convicted by the tribal court
of colluding with Lashkar-e-Islam.
The State Department declined to comment on the report's claims that Afridi had applied for asylum while staying in the U.S.
The commission report acknowledges Afridi was subjected to harsh
treatment in prison, and moved several times to various undisclosed
locations by Pakistan’s spy agency. His Pakistani handlers also note his
incarceration for a year without judicial process was unfair, according
to the report.
In a telephone interview with Fox News last year, Afridi recounted his ordeal in prison.
“My clothes were removed and I was forced by a major to wear old
dirty torn rags of an army conductor," Afridi said. "It was difficult to
eat food. I had to bend down on my knees to eat with only my mouth,
like a dog. I sat on the floor.”
Afridi said he was blindfolded for eight months, and handcuffed with his hands behind his back for a year.
Afridi, who helped confirm the Al Qaeda leader’s presence in an
Abbottabad compound, lived for a short period in San Francisco in 2009,
according to the report.
“He came to meet my brother and mother, who was not well at that
time,” Afridi’s first cousin, a Californian resident and student based
in Los Angeles, told FoxNews.com.
It was around that time that Afridi first agreed to work for the CIA,
the report said. The deal helped lead to Bin Laden’s death in 2011, and
netted Afridi a mere $13,000, according to his statement documented in
the report.
Afridi is currently serving a 33-year jail term, and is appealing his
conviction. The U.S. has called for Afridi's release, but his
supporters say the Obama administration has not done enough to press for
his freedom....
Umar Lee, a convert to Islam from St. Louis, was once enough of an Islamic supremacist to write to a rival:
"i could cut your neck with the sword of islam and watch you squeal
like a bitch like daniel pearl." In an email exchange with me, he endorsed the death penalty for apostasy.
But now he has left Islam and returned to Christianity. Watch the
video; in it he makes many, many important points about how converts to
Islam are lied to, and how Islam establishes an empire of fear.
Note especially this, starting at 4:04:
"We can talk about the grievance industry, CAIR, etc.,
trying to hype up the threat of Islamophobia. Islamophobia is very
minor. You want to talk about religious bias? You convert to
Christianity in Saudi Arabia, you're murdered. You convert from Islam in
so many Muslim countries, it's the death penalty. Why are Muslim
societies so afraid of missionaries? Why are Muslim societies so afraid
of freedom of speech? Why are Muslim societies so afraid of the Gospel?
Why are Muslim societies so afraid of the message of Jesus Christ? If
you believe Islam is the truth, why don't you believe Islam can compete
in the marketplace of ideas? Obviously you don't, or you wouldn't kill
people that convert to Christianity and put missionaries in jail."
Clearly they don't believe Islam can compete in the marketplace of
ideas. Just yesterday I offered to debate UC-Berkeley's professor of
"Islamophobia," Hatem Bazian. He responded: "Racist are not to be
debated they are to be shunned." (Yes, this university professor wrote
"racist are." He didn't explain what race jihad terror is. They never
do. This "racism" business is just a cover for what Umar Lee says: their
knowledge of and fear of the fact that they know their ideas can't
compete, or hold up to scrutiny.
