New from CBO

Assistant Analyst

The Macroeconomic Analysis Division is seeking candidates for an entry-level assistant analyst position for a period not to exceed three years – ideal for those interested in substantive work experience before attending graduate school. Although CBO prefers a candidate who is able to start soon, we will consider students who are graduating this summer. The Macroeconomic Analysis Division analyzes the macroeconomic effects of federal fiscal policy, studies emerging developments in the economy, and prepares CBO’s semi-annual economic forecast. In the past few years, the division has analyzed a wide range of issues, including policies to promote short-term and long-term economic growth, the effect of deficit reduction on the economy, the implications of changing demographics in the United States, and the macroeconomic effects of tax, Social Security, and Medicare reform. Assistant analysts provide support to the division’s 14 economists on a wide variety of topics. They assist in the development of the economic forecast and projections, prepare materials for CBO publications, maintain the division’s databases, and provide assistance with the data manipulation and analysis for projects such as: the impact of globalization of the labor share of income, the determinants of long-term economic growth, and the economic effects of fiscal policy.
