The Human Resources Department seeks a professional intern with a strong work ethic to assist in various areas of human resources during the fall semester (or earlier) on a part-time volunteer basis (unpaid). The successful candidate will report to the Human Resources Director and provide support as part of a 4-person HR shop. Duties are varied - HR interns are full members of the team who take on substantive projects which include working with federal benefits, recruitment support, personnel records management, and special projects. Qualifications Candidates should be working toward master’s degree in human resource management, industrial organizational psychology, business, or a related field. We may also consider students who are completing their final year towards a bachelor’s degree. The candidate should have the ability to handle multiple simultaneous tasks and complete projects under tight deadlines. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to deal discreetly with confidential information are a must. The position also requires a person who is flexible and can work well as a part of a team. Training/experience in human resources is desirable but not required. We are looking for an individual who can commit to a part-time schedule of at least 9 hours per week. Unpaid internships can only be offered to students whose universities sponsor internships with federal agencies. Such sponsorship does not require the student to receive compensation from the university, nor does it require the university to offer class credit for the internship. The university must be willing to complete CBO’s sponsorship form stating that it is sponsoring the student for an unpaid internship at CBO which will be of educational benefit to the participant. Students must verify for themselves that their university is willing to sponsor the internship before applying but will only be required to submit the sponsorship form if the student is offered an internship. How to Apply Please submit a cover letter, résumé, unofficial transcript, and contact information for two (2) references online. Although there is no deadline for this position, CBO will accept applications on a rolling basis until a selection is made and may be at any stage of the recruitment process when a candidate applies. Only complete applications will be considered. Contact Nancy Fahey, 2nd & D Streets, SW, Washington, DC, 202-226-2628, careers@cbo.gov EEO/M/F/V/D
