New from CBO

Volunteer Fall Intern for Communications

The Office of Communications seeks a volunteer intern with a strong work ethic to assist with the agency’s media relations and public affairs during the fall semester. The successful candidate will report to the Associate Director for Communications and will serve as a key member of the communications team. Duties include responding to phone and e-mail inquiries from the media and general public on a wide range of topics, attending and preparing for congressional hearings, and working on other communications projects as needed.  Previous communications interns have served a front-line role representing CBO and have interacted regularly with staff across the agency as part of performing their day-to-day responsibilities.   Qualifications Candidates should be working toward a master’s degree, preferably in journalism, mass communications, radio-television, or a related field with a strong focus or interest in government and/or political science.    Candidates must thrive in a fast-paced environment and be able to effectively handle multiple tasks and complete projects under tight deadlines. Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are required. Previous experience in journalism or media relations is desired and familiarity with, and interest in, social media would be a plus. It is preferred that the intern work approximately 20 hours per week, however we will consider candidates who can commit to at least 12 hours per week. If feasible, the specific work schedule will be designed to accommodate the individual’s academic or other commitments.   This internship can only be offered to students whose universities sponsor internships with federal agencies. There is no requirement for your university to pay or offer class credit for the internship but they must be willing to complete a form provided by CBO that indicates that they are sponsoring you for an unpaid internship at CBO which will be of educational benefit. Students must verify that their university is willing to sponsor their internship before applying but the statement won’t be required unless you are offered an internship.   How to Apply Please submit a cover letter, résumé, unofficial transcripts, and contact information for two (2) references online. Although there is no deadline for this position, CBO will accept applications on a rolling basis until a selection is made and may be at any stage of the recruitment process when a candidate applies. Only complete applications will be considered.   Contact Nancy Fahey, 2nd & D Streets, SW, Washington, DC, 202-226-2628, careers@cbo.gov
