The Health, Retirement, and Long-Term Analysis Division (HRLD) is seeking a health economist or health policy researcher with experience in managing analytic studies and reports to contribute to a variety of projects. HRLD’s recently completed work includes multiple analyses of the effects of the Affordable Care Act on insurance coverage and federal health care spending, an analysis of competition and costs in Medicare’s Part D program, a study of illustrative options for designing a premium support system for Medicare, and a compendium of health-related options for reducing the federal budget deficit. Ongoing work includes further analyses of the effects of the Affordable Care Act, a study of the drivers of private health insurance premiums, several studies on the supply and price of health care services, further analyses of competitive models for
Medicare, and many other studies. The successful candidate will contribute to a broad range of the division’s responsibilities, which include preparing CBO reports and testimonies, designing and producing state-of-the-art analytical studies that underlie those CBO products, and constructing and improving the associated analytic models. The senior advisor will primarily serve as a team leader, writer, and mentor, providing guidance to less experienced analysts and ensuring timely production of important analyses and reports. Other responsibilities will include assisting in the overall management and administration of the division. Qualifications Applicants must have a strong background in health economics, excellent writing skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team on issues of current interest to the Congress. Applicants must have a
Ph.D. in economics or a related discipline. Prior experience in managing analytic research projects and mentoring less experienced analysts would be an advantage.
