The Office of the Director seeks an additional Associate Director for Economic Analysis to contribute to all aspects of the agency’s analytic work. The focus of the Associate Directors’ work is maintaining and enhancing the quality and transparency of CBO’s analyses for the Congress. The second Associate Director will work with the current one to contribute to a broad range of the agency’s responsibilities, which include preparing CBO reports and testimonies, designing and producing state-of-the-art analytical studies that underlie those CBO products, and constructing and improving the associated analytic models. The two will split the work evenly, with the division of responsibilities depending upon the needs of the Congress at any given time. Major responsibilities of the position include the following: working with the Director and Deputy Director to set goals and make plans for achieving them and to set agency wide priorities; reviewing and guiding analytical reports at early, intermediate, and final stages; writing time-sensitive material; working with analysts to develop their skills and help them explain their methods; supporting senior managers; and engaging with analysts outside CBO. Qualifications Th e position requires exceptional technical knowledge of the methods of analysis and frontiers of economic research in multiple areas. A PhD in economics or public policy is required, as is at least ten years of relevant experience. Applicants must also have a strong background in economic policy and an understanding of current legislative issues. As well, the position requires excellent communication skills , including outstanding writing skills and the ability to communicate technical information to nonexperts. The ability to work effectively as part of a team at all levels—from strategically engaging with other CBO leaders to effectively assisting CBO’s analysts to enhance their analysis and improve their communication—is essential. The successful applicant must possess the ability to function in an objective, nonpartisan way.
