CBO seeks an experienced attorney to fill the position of Assistant General Counsel, one of four attorney positions in the Office of General Counsel. Working with both CBO’s management and staff, the Assistant General Counsel will provide formal and informal advice in all the areas of law affecting CBO’s operations, such as employment, procurement and contracting, appropriations, ethics, data access and use, and security. The Assistant General Counsel also will analyze and interpret legislative proposals and offer advice about the areas of the law addressed in analytical reports prepared for the Congress. In performing those duties, the Assistant General Counsel will interact with government officials at various levels, other lawyers inside and outside the government, members of the public, and Congressional staff. The work environment is fast-paced and complex. Qualifications Candidates for this position must have graduated from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association and be a member in good standing of the bar in a state, a U.S. territory, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Candidates must have at least five years’ experience advising clients on employment law issues and some experience representing clients in litigation. (Experience with the Congressional Accountability Act is a plus.)  Candidates should have the ability to:   •    Consider multiple aspects of complex issues and develop innovative alternatives consistent with the agency’s objectives; •    Research and analyze (sometimes novel) legal issues, often on short deadlines; •    Present legally sound conclusions, orally and in writing, in a clear, precise, and persuasive manner, with wording and tone appropriate for the intended audience; •    Produce written work in a number of formats, including legal memorandums, memorandums of understanding, contracts, correspondence, policies, and draft legislation; and •    Provide a full range of legal advice and support related to a variety of statutes and federal programs. Applicants will be evaluated comprehensively on the basis of their experience, education, awards, and training.
