Human Resources Intern

CBO’s Human Resources Office seeks a summer intern with a strong work ethic. The intern will report to the Human Resources Director and provide support to a five-person HR shop. Duties will be varied; some will involve taking on substantive projects related to federal benefits, recruitment, or personnel records management. Candidates should be working toward a master’s degree in human resource management, industrial organizational psychology, business, or a related field. Students beginning their senior year in 2017 and students who have completed their undergraduate degree during the 2016–2017 academic year will also be considered. Candidates should be able to handle multiple simultaneous tasks and finish projects under tight deadlines. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to deal discreetly with confidential information are required. The hourly salary ranges from $16 to $28 and will be commensurate with educational attainment and related experience. This is a temporary position; it is expected to last approximately 10 weeks between May and August 2017. The selected candidate would be expected to work a 40-hour week, but an alternative schedule may be considered. Housing and relocation expenses are not provided, but CBO’s interns are eligible for a local transportation subsidy of up to $255 per month. Communications Intern

The Office of Communications seeks an intern with a strong work ethic to assist with the agency’s media relations and public affairs during the summer. Duties include responding to phone and email inquiries from the media and the public on a wide range of topics, preparing for and attending Congressional hearings, coordinating meetings with outside groups and international visitors, and working on other communications projects and planning as needed. Previous communications interns have served a frontline role representing CBO and have interacted routinely with staff in every area of the agency. Candidates must be working toward a master’s degree, preferably in journalism, mass communications, radio/television, or a related field and should have a strong focus on and interest in government or political science. Candidates must thrive in a fast-paced environment and be able to effectively handle multiple tasks and complete projects under tight deadlines. Strong written and oral communications skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are required.
