CBO’s Budget Analysis Division seeks a manager to direct its Projections Unit, which currently consists of nine analysts. The unit works closely with others in the division and elsewhere in CBO to prepare projections of federal spending, deficits, debt, and other data related to the federal budget. The unit chief organizes, supervises, and reviews the unit’s work so as to produce high-quality nonpartisan analyses and estimates, usually under tight deadlines. Those responsibilities include coordinating, reviewing, and editing reports and cost estimates for proposed legislation, and overseeing the preparation and distribution of budget data. Applicants must have an advanced degree in public policy, public administration, economics, or a related field and at least 5 years of relevant experience (or a bachelor’s degree and at least 10 years of relevant experience) and should possess superior analytical skills and the leadership qualities necessary to manage and motivate a highly skilled staff in a complex and continually evolving legislative environment. Experience could include management of projects and staff or significant coordination responsibilities for projects involving several people.
