CBO’s Budget Analysis Division seeks an analyst for its Defense, International Affairs, and Veterans’ Affairs Cost Estimates Unit. The veterans’ program analyst will work on a variety of programs, including disability compensation and pension benefits for veterans. That work will include evaluating population and medical data to identify probable trends in spending on veterans’ income security programs. Past work has included analyzing the cost of providing benefits to Persian Gulf War veterans with unknown illnesses and to veterans who have developed diseases believed to be associated with Agent Orange exposure. Applicants must have a graduate degree in public administration, public policy, economics, or another quantitative discipline, or a bachelor’s degree and at least five years of relevant experience with veterans’ or defense programs. This position requires strong skills in quantitative methods; resourcefulness in investigating unfamiliar issues; and the ability to clearly explain and defend analytical results orally and in writing to colleagues, Congressional staff, Members of Congress, and the public.U.S. citizenship is required, as is the ability to obtain and maintain a top secret clearance.
