CBO’s Macroeconomic Analysis Division seeks a manager to lead its Fiscal Policy Studies Unit, which analyzes the macroeconomic effects of federal fiscal policy and communicates estimates of those effects to the Congress. The unit chief supervises a staff of about eight analysts—most with advanced degrees in economics—and contributes to the division’s management. Key responsibilities include identifying issues in fiscal policy that may require attention and research, providing leadership and direction in that research and in publishing the results, overseeing the development of economic models, and responding to requests from the Congress for information on and analysis of specific topics.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in economics and at least 7 years of experience (or a master’s degree with at least 10 years of experience) in analyzing the economic effects of fiscal and other policies. They must be familiar with state-of-the-art macroeconomic models used for policy analysis, such as general equilibrium and overlapping-generations models. The position requires outstanding leadership, research, and management skills and the ability to manage projects and to motivate and direct a strong professional staff.
The salary is competitive with positions in the executive branch and will be commensurate with experience, education, and other qualifications. CBO offers excellent benefits and a collegial, respectful work environment.
