Assistant General Counsel

CBO seeks an experienced attorney to fill the position of Assistant General Counsel, one of four attorney positions in the Office of the General Counsel.  Working with CBO’s management and staff, the Assistant General Counsel will provide formal and informal advice in all areas of law affecting CBO’s operations, such as appropriations, ethics, procurement and contracting, employment, data access and use, and security. The Assistant General Counsel will also help interpret and analyze legislative proposals and advise CBO’s employees about areas of law addressed in the cost estimates and reports that the agency prepares for the Congress. In performing those duties, the Assistant General Counsel will interact with government officials at various levels, other lawyers inside and outside the government, members of the public, and Congressional staff. The work environment is fast-paced, and the issues are often complex.
