The Congressional Budget Office, a nonpartisan agency that provides economic and budgetary analysis to the Congress, is ranked as the best place to work among small federal agencies. The agency is seeking a chief financial officer (CFO) to serve as its principal financial adviser and to lead and work alongside the three-person staff in financial management.
The CFO is responsible for all aspects of planning, execution, and oversight of the agency’s budgetary and financial activities. Responsibilities include preparing the annual budget, appropriation request, and financial reports, as well as implementing an effective internal control program to monitor and safeguard the agency’s expenditures in compliance with relevant rules and accounting standards. The CFO works closely with members of CBO’s senior staff in developing budget plans, communicates with and explains those plans to Congressional staff, and provides financial analysis and advice to CBO’s leadership.
