Macroeconomist

The Macroeconomic Analysis Division is seeking a macroeconomist with a broad range of interests, including fiscal policy and public finance. The division assesses the macroeconomic effects of federal fiscal policy over the short and long runs, analyzes emerging developments in the economy, and prepares a semiannual economic forecast.

Applicants must have either a Ph.D. in economics (or a related discipline) and 5 years of relevant experience or a master’s degree and 10 years of relevant experience. They should have strong quantitative and modeling skills.

Climate and Energy Economist

The Energy, Climate, and Environment Unit is seeking one or more economists to analyze the effects on the federal budget and the economy of climate change, policies to mitigate or adapt to climate change, and related issues. 

Applicants must have either a Ph.D. in economics (or a related discipline) or a master’s degree with five years of relevant experience. They should have strong quantitative and modeling skills; preference will be given to candidates with experience modeling energy markets or systems that are important sources of climate change–related emissions.

Experienced Health Economist

The Health Analysis Division (HAD) seeks an experienced health economist to contribute to a variety of projects, analyses, and modeling. CBO’s economists work closely with other CBO staff to prepare information, studies, and testimony for the Congress. They are also encouraged to disseminate both the agency’s projects and their own research in working papers and submissions to academic journals.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in economics, health economics, or a related discipline. In addition, applicants should have a minimum of five years of postgraduate experience in research and analysis, strong quantitative skills, experience using Medicare claims or other large data files, knowledge of at least one programming language, and an interest in the development of policy-relevant models.

Health Economist

The Health Analysis Division (HAD) seeks a health economist to contribute to a variety of projects, analyses, and modeling. The economist will work closely with other CBO staff to prepare information, studies, and testimony for the Congress. Furthermore, CBO’s economists are encouraged to describe both the agency’s projects and their own research in CBO working papers and submissions to academic journals.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in economics, health economics, or a related discipline. In addition, applicants should have prior experience in health policy analysis, strong quantitative skills, experience using large data files, an in-depth knowledge of at least one programming language, and an interest in the development of policy-relevant models.

Tax Economist

The Tax Analysis Division is responsible for providing the Congress with analysis and evaluation of the effects of past and proposed changes to federal tax and transfer policies. It is also responsible for forecasting federal revenues, which are part of CBO’s baseline budget projections.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in economics or a related field or an advanced degree in economics or a related field with relevant work experience.
