The Congressional Budget Office is a small nonpartisan agency that provides economic and budgetary analysis to the Congress. CBO’s Budget Analysis Division seeks an analyst for its Public and Private Mandates Unit, which analyzes and estimates of the effects of federal legislation on the budgets of state, local, and tribal governments; businesses; and individuals. The analyst’s portfolio will vary over time depending on the unit’s needs, but is likely to include natural resources, agriculture, federal land management, oil and gas leasing, federal labor programs, and the administration of justice.

CBO’s estimates of the costs of federal mandates provide the Congress with important information as it considers proposed legislation. The unit works closely with analysts in the division and across the agency. Analysts also work closely with Congressional and federal agency staff; industry and business groups; and representatives of state, local, and tribal governments.
