The Director of Budget Analysis oversees a staff of more than 90 people, including 14 managers, more than 70 analysts , and a small number of support staff. As a member of CBO’s executive staff, the Director of Budget Analysis works closely with CBO’s Director and other CBO leaders on strategic planning and agency wide management priorities. The Director of Budget Analysis oversees the division’s input to, and reviews of, other CBO products. For example, analysts in the division often prepare estimates of the effects of various policy options for reports prepared by other divisions and help review those reports.

This position requires in-depth knowledge of the Congressional budget process and of the concepts, structure, and details of the federal budget. It also requires superior analytical skills, keen attention to detail, and significant experience directly overseeing analytical work. Candidates must have a master’s degree in public policy, economics, or a related discipline, or a bachelor’s degree with equivalent professional experience.
