Blythe Park PTA Happenings 10/07/2013

First Wellness Wednesday is this week!

Our first WELLNESS WEDNESDAY will be this Wednesday, October 9th and our guests will be coaches from the Lions Jr. Volleyball Club.  Our students will get to practice bumping, setting, spiking, and volleying.  The Lions Jr. Club is part of a larger volleyball association called 1st Alliance Volleyball Club.  This organization offers many options for playing volleyball, including leagues, clinics, tournaments, and beach volleyball for boys and girls in first grade through high school. Check out their website at
http://www.1stalliancevbc.net/ for more information about their programs.

Fifth graders will get to sample the healthy snack of the month which is sweet potato fries.  Sweet potatoes are rich in vitamins A and C, calcium, and potassium.  They are a good source of fiber and are low in calories.  Baking fries is healthier than frying fries in fatty oils.  Try them at home for a tasty treat!
Baked Sweet Potato Fries
  • 2 sweet potatoes
  • Tbs olive oil
  • Salt to taste (you can include other seasonings like, cinnamon and brown sugar, or cumin, red pepper and oregano, or rosemary)
Bake at 400 degrees for 20-30 minutes
