Come to the November PTA meeting this Wednesday, November 6th.

You’re invited to the November PTA meeting to be held this Wednesday, November 6th at 9:00am in the lunch/multi-purpose room. Please join us to hear about all the upcoming PTA programs. Dr. Sharma-Lewis and Dr. Ganon will be presenting the district ISAT results, new state report card and plans for the 2013-2014 school year.

The agenda and other meeting documents have been posted.   Please click on the links below to review them. As part of the November meeting the proposed changes to the standing rules will be voted on.  The standing rules are attached below for review.

Babysitting will be available and refreshments will be served.  We hope you can join us!

October Bulldog Challenge Tracking sheet due Wednesday, November 6th

Bulldog Challenge fitness logs for October are due by this Wednesday, November 6th.  Remember, the class with the highest participation will earn a free day in gym!  Mrs. Goletz will also be raffling off prizes to students who turn in their sheets! You should have received a November log sheet last week, but if you need another click on the following link: http://www.blytheparkpta.org/?page_id=2760 and you can find one to download.  Our next Wellness Wednesday will be November 13th and will feature La Crosse!

      

 

This Friday, November 8th is a school spirit day!

Let’s show our school spirit this Friday. Encourage your kids to wear their Blythe Park clothing! Don’t forget to wear your Brain Game charms!

      

 

Thank you for a Spooktacular Halloween!

Thank you to all the parents who made Halloween Spooktacular - especially the Blythe Park Players for their wonderful “Frankenstudent” performance and to all the room parents who made the classroom parties a howling success!

      

 

Don’t forget UNICEF Box Turn In on Friday, Picture Retake Day and Veteran’s Day Program next week.

If you participated in Trick or Treat for UNICEF, please turn in your box by Friday, November 8th.

Did your school pictures turn out not so good? Lifetime Photography will be returning to Blythe Park for retakes on Tuesday, November 12th. Parents who would like their child’s picture retaken should send back the original set of pictures they received.

You’re invited to attend Blythe Park School’s Veteran’s Day Program.

The students of Blythe Park will present a Veteran’s Day Program on  Monday, November 11th at 10:00am in the auditorium. The highlight of the program is the introduction of family members and friends who are veterans. If you know a Veteran or anyone who served in the Armed Forces, please invite them to attend.

Don’t forget to have your children wear red, white and blue clothing to the performance.

Looking for any old socks you would like to give away

This year’s Reading Night will include a sock puppet craft, and PTA is desperate for your old socks! Any kind of knee socks will do - colored or white – kids or adult. Got a lot of mismatched socks? We’ll take ‘em – just drop them off at the office! Thank you

      

 

Explore the Arts! Help your child participate in PTA Reflections!

REFLECT on the theme.  CREATE an original artwork.  BE RECOGNIZED!

It is PTA Reflections time! Each year the National PTA sponsors the Reflections Program. This program encourages children in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade throughout the nation to explore their artistic talents.

We encourage you to unleash your child’s talents by encouraging participation in this wonderful program.To participate, your child needs to interpret this year’s theme“Believe, Dream Inspire” to one of six artcategories. To get your creative juices flowing, a brief explanation of each category is provided below.

Literature
Poetry, Prose, Drama, Short Stories, Song Lyrics, Fiction and Non-Fiction

Musical Composition
Scores of original composition, with or without words, accompanied with CD, not exceeding five minuteshgh

Photography
Color or black and white prints or collage of photographic prints measuring up to 11×14 inches, including mat.

Visual Arts
Painting, drawing, collage, printmaking, needlework, computer art up to 20” x 24”

Dance/Choreography
DVD, not to exceed five minutes

Film/Video Production
All aspects of the film must be done by the student on DVD not to exceed five minutes.

How does the program work? Your child creates an original work of art in one of the six categories listed above. Each submitted piece will be forwarded to our local District for judging. District winners will move on to the State level. Reflections Program awards culminate with a national winner in each of the six categories. All Blythe Park entrants will be awarded a certificate and Reflection ribbon.  General Student Participation Rules and the Official Entry Form are attached. If your child will be entering, please contact Lisa Gaynor for a copy of the detailed rules for their category of interest. All entries must be received to the school office by Monday, December 2nd.

Box Tops: Keep on Clipping!

Thanks to all who have been clipping away – so far this school year Blythe Park has collected over 5,000 Box Tops – that’s over $500 towards our goal of $1,200!

And special congratulations to the following classes who have won prizes in the year-long “Race for Box Tops” contest: Mrs. Sayre’s 1st grade class, Mrs. King’s and Ms. Helfrich’s 4th grade classes, and Mr. Preble’s 5th grade class.  Your prizes will be delivered soon!  Remember that this year, all classes will have a chance to win prizes by clipping Box Tops!  See the attached flier for details.

Also, the attached flier has information about current and upcoming promotions at Meijer that can earn you Bonus Box Tops.  Now through November 27, 2013, earn 20 Bonus Box Tops when you buy any 5 participating General Mills, Nature Valley, Green Giant or Pillsbury Box Tops for Education products in a single transaction (limit one bonus per transaction).

November Brain Games are about to begin!

The Brain Games challenge for November is Art Appreciation with a focus on book illustration. Watch for the challenge in your child’s backpack soon.

      

 

Help Student Council with school wide collection for our troops

Blythe Park Student Council is sponsoring a school wide collection for Operation Support our Troops-America.

The collection will be get a “kick-off” at our school Veterans’ Day program on November, 11th and run through November 22nd

*Below is a list of items currently needed.

*Please send what you can to school during the collection dates above.

*The Student Council members will be writing letters to our troops to accompany the items we collect.

* Our collection will be displayed in front of the office, so students and families can see how much we have collected to help our troops.

ITEMS NEEDED:

1. Individual cold drink mix packets (Gatorade, Propel, etc)

2. Slim Jims/Jerky

3. Individually wrapped snacks

4. Nuts (20 oz or less)

5. Granola, protein and snack bars

6. Travel size shampoo

7. Toothbrushes and travel size toothpaste

8. Individually wrapped Starlight mints or other hard candies

9. Coffee singles or 1 lb cans/bags of ground coffee

10. Mouthwash (500 ml or less)

Please do not donate glass items, larger sizes than listed or expired items
