Blythe Park PTA Happenings 04/14/2014
Illinois largest water park, Raging Waves Water park, located in Yorkville is offering a fitness program for kids.
Children are invited to Plunge into Fitness this spring as Raging Waves Water park joins the battle against childhood obesity. The fitness initiative runs now through April 14th, and each child completing the program requirements during this time period will receive a free Raging Waves full day admission pass.
The Plunge into fitness program requires a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise each day, which totals 25 hours for the seven week period. Any activity that increases heart rate qualifies including: walking, running, biking, playing team sports, skateboarding, swimming, jumping rope and hopscotch. For the duration of the program, each child will complete a fitness log attached below. Once complete, a parent will sign it and the child will turn it into the school office by April 14th.

The Blythe Park PTA annual plant sale is here! Do your spring planting and Mother’s Day shopping while supporting our school at the same time! Also, with your order, you will be entered into a raffle for a free hanging basket (a $26 value). Same as last year, orders can be placed at www.blytheparkpta.org, (just look for the Plant Sale button), or you can use the attached order form. All payments can be sent to the school office marked “PTA Plant Sale” and checks should be made payable to: Blythe Park PTA. All orders are due on Friday April 25th. Orders will be delivered in time for Mother’s Day.

The March Board of Education Meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 15th at 7:30pm in the Hauser LRC. The Policy Committee will meet at 6:00pm. The agenda and the meeting packet for both meetings can be found at the following link:https://v3.boardbook.org/Public/PublicHome.aspx?ak=1000501
Come enjoy the 5th Grade Spring band concert this Wednesday, April 16th at 6:00pm in the Hauser auditorium.

 
The District 96 Young Author’s books are being displayed on a rotating basis this month at Riverside Public Library. RPL is hosting a reception each Thursday for the authors (and their families) of the books being displayed that week.
The 2014 District 96 Young Author’s Book are on display in the Children / Youth Section at Riverside Public Library. Thursday, April 17 from 3:30 - 4:30 will feature all Blythe Park authors.
Blythe Park will be celebrating science during the month of April. The science celebration will have three different cool related science activities:
April 15th and 16th-In-class experiments
This week High Touch-High Tech will be visiting each of Blythe Park’s classrooms to conduct a hands-on workshops. Make sure to ask your children about them.
April 16th-Science Assembly
On April 16th, all the children will participate in “Into the Mousetrap”. This hands-on science assembly will have the students on the stage to understand machines and to create their own right before their eyes. April 24th - Science Fair
Bring out the scientist in your child and be a part of the Blythe Park’s Science Fair to be held at 6:30pm on Thursday, April 24th prior to Spring Open House. Now is the time to start thinking about your science experiment idea. RSVPs are due Thursday, April 17th. Go the www.blytheparkpta.org and click on the science night button to sign-up.
Need to Know Details:
Students will conduct their own science experiment at home to either display or demonstrate at the Science Fair. Each student’s display will be set-up on a card table. There will be no judging. Each student will receive a participation award. Students may work individually or in a group of no more than two students. Each participating student will be required to follow the five steps of the Scientific Method and complete and bring the Scientific Method worksheet with their experiment. Participation is optional.
The Incentive to Participate Is Back!
If 30 or more students participate in Science Night, Ms. Danno and Mrs. Gaynor will run an additional science program entitled ” Lunch with the Scientist”. All participating students, will be invited to conduct a cool science experiment during lunch.
If 50 or more students participate in Science Night, Ms. Danno and Mrs. Gaynor will the run the “Lunch with the Scientist” program for all the participating scientists and will do a fun science demonstration for the entire school during lunch at Field Day.
Display Board Available
Half-size display boards will be available at the school. PTA has ordered boards and will be offering them to science night participants for the low cost of $2.00. If you are interested in a half-size board, please check that box on your RSVP.

The Bargain Books and More Sale is coming up Friday, April 25th from 3-6pm and Saturday, April 26th from 9am-noon. You won’t want to miss it. Get ready to stock up for summer reading! There is so much to choose from: we have wonderful children’s and adult books, fiction and non-fiction, DIY, cookbooks, games, puzzles and activity books, movies, music and more! Most items are priced between $.50 - $2.00. All proceeds benefit the Blythe Park PTA and all the fantastic year-round programming our kids enjoy each month.
Be sure to stop by the gym after school Friday, April 25th or Saturday morning, April 26th. Tell your friends and neighbors - it is sure to be another fabulous sale!
We are still taking donations. Please drop any donated items in the Bargain Book box located right outside the school office.
