 The Holidays are right around the corner. Do you purchase Pionsettias to decorate your home with Holiday cheer? This season you can purchase your Poinsettias and Holiday Flowers from Blythe Park PTA.
The fundraiser will run from now until Friday, November 14th.
You can order the following flowers from Schaefer Greenhouse:
- Poinsettia 3-4 Flowers - $8.00
- Poinsettia 5-7 Flowers - $15.00
- Poinsettia 7-9 Flowers -$25.00
- 6″ Azalea - $22.00
- 6″ Cyclamen - $18.00
Please make checks payable to Blythe Park PTA and drop in the Blythe Park office or the mail slot at 396 Blythe Rd by Friday, November 14th. Flower pick-up will be on Thursday, December 4th from 3-4pm in the lunchroom. The order form is attached below.

The Young Authors’ Committee will be placing an order for blank books to use for your child(ren)’s Young Author book. This is not a required assignment for all classes. Please check with your classroom teacher.
If you would like to purchase any blank or lined books, please complete the order form below and return it with your money to the school office by November 14th. Please make checks payable to Riverside Public Schools with Young Author in the memo section.

 The Blythe Park PTA extends an invitation to all Blythe Park families to remember someone special in your life and help build our library collection at the same time. How does the program work? You select and purchase a book from the library wish list and create your personalized dedication. Blythe Park PTA will print your dedication in your book and the book will be donated to our school library. Please use the instructions below to access the on-line wish list.  Blythe Park PTA’s November Meeting will be held on Friday, November 14th at 9:00am in the lunch room. Please join us to hear about all the programs taking place in November and December.  The Original Works program provides each student the opportunity to have the artwork you have created in class, reproduced onto products such as magnets, tiles, note cards, mugs, mouse pads and many other items. This is a great way for you to share your artwork with family and friends.
Art work has arrived and will be distributed this week, please check your child’s backpack. Now is the time to place your order. If you are interested in ordering, please bring your completed order form and payment to school no later than Tuesday, November 18th – No exceptions. We would like to have the product back before winter break.

Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings to school the books kids want to read. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits.

BULLDOG CHALLENGE NEWS
Great job to all the students who turned in their fitness calendars for October! They will get their paw print charms this week! Don’t forget to keep track of your fitness activities in November!
Instead of Wellness Wednesday this month we will have Fitness Friday! On Friday, November 14, Ms. Gorman will be out fitness guest and she will lead the students in a cardio kickboxing class.
Kickboxing is a defense sport that combines elements of karate, Muay Thai, and Western Boxing. It originated in Japan in the 1960’s and was brought to the United States in the 1970’s. There are many different versions of kickboxing, so the American teaching of kickboxing is typically a fusion of several different styles. Cardio kickboxing, which is what the students will practice on Fitness Friday, is a form of exercise designed to raise the heart rate, target/strengthen the core muscles, and improve overall flexibility and coordination.
CARDIO KIDS NEWS
Cardio Kids will meet this week on Thursday, November 13th and Friday, November 14th. Please have your runners/walkers dressed appropriately for the activity and the weather and be ready to go at 7:50am. Parents are welcome to join in for some exercise as well.
On Friday, November 21st, we will hold our first annual Cocoa Run! All Cardio Kids will be running. Mr.  Bartelt, Ms. Ravenhorst and Ms. Gorman would love if parents joined us for this run as well. We will begin a little earlier that morning (7:40 AM). There will be music, Santa/Elf hats , cookies and hot chocolate. If any parents would like to run, please email Ms. Gorman so she will know how many hats to order. Looking forward to everyone coming out to join the fun!
 Blythe Park Student Council is sponsoring a school wide collection for Operation Support out Troops-America (http://www.osotamerica.org/)
We will KICK OFF the collection at our school Veterans’ Day program on November 11th and November 25th.
*Below is a list of items currently needed.
*Please send what you can to school during the collection dates above.
*Letters are also welcome. See guideline below.
*Our collection will be displayed in front of the office, so students and families can see how much we have collected to help our troops.
Items Needed:
- Individual cold drink mix packets (Gatorade, Propel, etc.)
- Slim Jims/Jerky
- Individually wrapped snacks
- Granola, protein and snack bars
- Crackers (12oz. box or less)
- Foot Powder (20oz. or less)
- Coffee singles or 1 lb. bags of ground coffee
- Lotion for men (12oz. or less)
- Non-aerosol shaving cream/deodorant (travel size)
- Hand sanitizer (12oz. or less)
- Toliet Paper
- Socks (white or black athletic-no visible logos)
Please do not donate glass items, larger sizes than listed or expired items. No prepacked boxes can be accepted.
Letter Writing Guidelines: Address all letters to “Dear military person”. Please do not seal the letters. The letters do not require postage and if you would like the individual that receives your letter to possibly write back, include your name and address. Thank you for supporting our troops!!
 Treat your kid(s) to a hot lunch and treat yourself to a day off from packing lunches!
The next Hot Lunch Fundraiser will be held on Friday, November 21st. The menu will include: slice of cheese pizza, seasonal fruit, cookie and a drink. The cost per child is $5.00. To register your child(ren), go to www.blytheparkpta.org and click on the hot lunch sign-up button located on the right side bar. Reservations will begin this Tuesday for the November Hot Lunch.
Reservation deadline is Wednesday, November 19th. This program is only for children that have the option of staying at school for lunch.
If you have made sign-up and paid for the entire year, no reservations are needed.
It is PTA Reflections time! Each year the National PTA sponsors the Reflections Program. This program encourages children in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade throughout the nation to explore their artistic talents.
We encourage you to unleash your child’s talents by encouraging participation in this wonderful program.To participate, your child needs to interpret this year’s theme “The World Would Be A Better Place If…” to one of six art categories. To get your creative juices flowing, a brief explanation of each category is provided below.
Literature
Poetry, Prose, Drama, Short Stories, Song Lyrics, Fiction and Non-Fiction
Musical Composition
Scores of original composition, with or without words, accompanied with CD, not exceeding five minuteshgh
Photography
Color or black and white prints or collage of photographic prints measuring up to 11×14 inches, including mat.
Visual Arts
Painting, drawing, collage, printmaking, needlework, computer art up to 20” x 24”
Dance/Choreography
DVD, not to exceed five minutes
Film/Video Production
All aspects of the film must be done by the student on DVD not to exceed five minutes.
How does the program work? Your child creates an original work of art in one of the six categories listed above. Each submitted piece will be forwarded to our local District for judging. District winners will move on to the State level. Reflections Program awards culminate with a national winner in each of the six categories. All Blythe Park entrants will be awarded a certificate and Reflection ribbon. General Student Participation Rules and the Official Entry Form are attached. If your child will be entering, please contact Lisa Gaynor for a copy of the detailed rules for their category of interest. All entries must be received to the school office by Friday, December 5th
