Blythe Park PTA Happenings 02/09/2015

Educational speaker Josh Gunderson to talk about your child’s digital life tonight Monday, February 9th

Riverside School District 96, in partnership with the Hollywood Elementary School PTA and the Safe Environment Commission of the Village of Riverside, welcomes educational speaker Josh Gunderson tonight Monday, February 9th.

With more than eight years of experience in educational theatre, Gunderson travels throughout the U.S. discussing real-life examples of positive and negative situations within the online world, specifically the detrimental effects of cyberbullying.

“Every day, it seems we hear about incidents of bullying and cyberbullying in particular,” says Gunderson. “With the growing influence of social media websites like Facebook and Twitter, it is crucial for students and parents to understand the ramifications of what can happen with just the click of a mouse. Bullying isn’t just happening in the school yard or hallway; it’s happening in cyberspace too.”

Gunderson will be visiting students, presenting “Your Digital Life.” This high-energy program shows the pros and cons of the online world in a way that keeps students engaged and entertained, but also has them thinking twice about their digital footprint. Highlighting areas such as thinking before you post, privacy, online identity, bullying, pictures and sexting, Gunderson uses his own unique brand of comedy to explain the rules for internet safety.

The “Your Digital Life” presentation for parents will take place on the evening of Monday, February 9th from 7:00 – 8:30pm in the Hauser Junior High Auditorium located at 65 Woodside Rd. in Riverside

Please see the attached flyer for more information.

Grab a book and read this February! Complete the Bulldog Book Challenge and the Six Flags Reading Program

Throughout the month of February, Blythe Park will be working on the school-wide Bulldog book challenge.   The students will keep a reading log in their folder on which they will log the number of books they read,   Please initial the log once a book is read.  We will check the logs each Friday, so it is best if the sheet is kept in their homework folder so as not to be inadvertently forgotten at home.  Blythe Park will keep track of our school-wide goal throughout the entire month, with the hope of meeting or beating our target number.  Let’s make it happen!  The tracking log for the Bulldog Book Challenge was sent home in your child’s backpack.  Please note, PTA will also accept the Bulldog Reading Logs as proof for the Read to Succeed Program.

Any questions, contact Ms. Gorman at gormanc@district96.org.

Blythe Park PTA encourages participation in the Six Flags Six Hour Reading Club.

Every Blythe Park student who completes six hours of reading and submits a signed reading log by MONDAY, FEBRUARY 23rd will receive one free admission ticket to a participating Six Flags Theme Park this summer.
