The 2015-2016 Bulldog Challenge 2015-2016 has begun!

Our PTA sponsored fitness program, The Bulldog Challenge has begun!

The description of the program was sent home with the students last week along with a calendar that kids can use to track their minutes/hours of fitness activities.  The description is also available on the www.blytheparkpta.org.

This is a two part program -

Part 1
This part involves the students tracking the amount of time they spend doing fitness activities-such as soccer practice, bike riding, dance lessons, etc.  They earn a point for every 30 minutes of activity and if they earn 24 points in a month, they will get a paw print charm and key chain to hang on their backpack or school bag.  We keep a record of the points throughout the year and if they earn enough points they may win a medal at the ACES walk! This part of the program is optional, but all are encouraged to participate!

Part 2
The second part of the program is our Wellness Wednesdays.  Once a month, a fitness expert demonstrates a unique sport or activity for the students during their PE class.

Our first Wellness Wednesday will be this week, October 7th. Our guest will be Rich Fantozzi from Berwyn Bombers Lacrosse and OPRF boys Lacrosse.  He began playing lacrosse at the park district level and continued playing through high school, college, and into men’s leagues in the Chicago area.  He has over 30 years of experience. The Berwyn Bombers Lacrosse Program started in the Spring of 2013 thanks to a US Lacrosse grant awarded to the Berwyn Park District. The grant was intended to bring lacrosse to the surrounding communities and included free equipment for kids who participate in the program. The program currently draws kids from Berwyn, Riverside, Lyons, Cicero and Chicago.  They offer a Fall, Winter and Spring season for boys and girls ages 9-14.
