It is all about Reading this week at Blythe! Scholastic Book Fair and Reading Night to be held.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR

Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings to school the books kids want to read. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits.

Book Fair dates & times:
Thursday 11/19,  4-8pm -  during  P/T conferences & Family Reading Night
Friday 11/20,  3-5pm -  after school
Monday 11/23,  4-8pm -  during P/T conferences & Family Movie Night

FALL INTO A GOOD BOOK AT READING NIGHT

Join us for Blythe’s Reading Night on Thursday, November 19th from 6:30-7:30pm.

Children are invited to wear their pajamas.  The children will enjoy stories read by a Riverside librarian Anne Houston, a snack, and a fall craft.

It will be a fun evening!

    
 

Square One orders due Wednesday, November 18th

The Square One Art program provides each student the opportunity to have artwork they have created in class, reproduced onto products such as magnets, tiles, note cards, mugs, mouse pads and many other items.  This is a great way for you to share your child’s artwork with family and friends.

You have received a sample of your child’s artwork on twenty stickers that came home in your child’s backpack last Wednesday. Now, it is the time to place your order.  If you are interested in ordering, please bring your completed order form and payment to school no later than Wednesday, November 18th. We would like to have the product back before winter break.

The Bulldog Newspaper is looking for 4th/5th Grade Reporters and Illustrators. First meeting-Wednesday, November 18th

On Wednesday, November 18th from 3:00-3:45pm in the library there will be a meeting for any interested 4th and 5th grade students who would like to be reporters and/or illustrators for the Bulldog Newspaper.

At this meeting, interested students will learn about their roles and responsibilities of being a reporter and/or illustrator.  A project calendar will be presented and assignments will be finalized.  We would like all students to sign-up prior to the meeting for two topics of interest that they would like to report on and/or illustrate

This Thursday, come to “Coffee with the Principal” and the November PTA meeting

Please meet Ms. Gorman in the Blythe Park Library at 8:15 AM on Thursday, November 19th to discuss school events, curricular initiatives, and any questions you may have regarding Blythe Park School.  For our November coffee session, Mrs. King and Ms. Zimborski will join us to discuss co-teaching and how this model is  currently being implemented during the instructional day.

NOVEMBER PTA MEETING-8:45am

Blythe Park PTA’s November Meeting will be held on Thursday, November 19th 15th at 8:45am in the lunch room. This Friday is Hot Lunch! Reservation deadline is Wednesday.

Treat your kid(s) to a hot lunch and treat yourself to a day off from packing lunches!

The November Hot Lunch is this Friday,November 20th. The menu will include: slice of cheese pizza, seasonal fruit, cookie and a drink.  The cost per child is $5.00.  Please register your child(ren) by clicking on the Cheddar-Up button below

You can pay for the Hot Lunch Fundraiser with credit on-line. If you would not like to use the on-line payment option, please send cash or check (payable to Blythe Park PTA) to the school office with your family name and “Hot Lunch” written on the envelope.  You can pay for the remainder of the year or single lunches.

PLEASE NOTE - all children must be registered by clicking on the Cheddar Up button above no matter what your payment method  is going to be used (cash, check or credit).  If you have paid for the remainder of the year last month, no reservation is needed.

Reservation deadline is Wednesday, October 18th. This program is only for children that have the option of staying at school for lunch.

Exercise this week with Cardio Kids. No Kids Yoga.

Full week of Cardio Kids this week!  See you on Wednesday and Friday.

Please have your runners/walkers dressed appropriately for the activity and the weather and be ready to go at 7:45am.  The students will join Ms. Gorman and Mr. Bartelt in a run or walk around the Blythe Park Campus. Four laps around the school equals one mile.  Students will be tracked with the goal of completing an incremental marathon.  Parents are welcome to join as well.

We are now offering a Girls and a Boys Yoga class.

Here is the schedule for the rest of the fall session.

11/26 holiday no class
12/3   boys
2/10 girls
12/17 boys

Bare Book orders for Young Author books due this Friday, November 20th

The Young Authors’ Committee will be placing an order for blank books to use for your child(ren)’s Young Author book.  This is not a required assignment for all classes.  Please check with your classroom teacher.

If you would like to purchase any blank or lined books, please complete the order form below and return it with your money to the school office by this Friday, November 20th.  Please make checks payable to Riverside Public Schools with Young Author in the memo section.

Movie Night to be held Monday, November 23rd

Monday, November 23rd is parent-teacher conferences  and movie night. This year’s feature film, The Book of Life, will be shown at 6:00pm in the auditorium. Drop off the kids while you attend parent/teacher conferences or do a little early holiday shopping at the Scholastic Book Fair.  Popcorn, churros, candy treats and beverages will be available to purchase at our concession stand.

    
 

Last week to order your Blythe Park School Pride T-shirts. Deadline Monday, November 23rd.

The Blythe Park Staff and Student Council are teaming up to promote school pride while raising funds for a great cause.  They are selling Blythe Park School Pride T-shirts.  All proceeds from the T-shirt sales will go towards sponsoring a child from a poverty-stricken area of Ghana.

When a child is sponsored, everything changes for that child.

  • He or She gets to attend school
  • He or She gets a hot lunch everyday, in some cases her only meal of the day.
  • He or she is given immunizations.

Got creativity? Take pART in PTA Refections this year!

It is PTA Reflections time! Each year the National PTA sponsors the Reflections Program. This program encourages children in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade throughout the nation to explore their artistic talents.

We encourage you to unleash your child’s talents by encouraging participation in this wonderful program.To participate, your child needs to interpret this year’s theme “Let Your Imagination Fly…” to one of six art categories. To get your creative juices flowing, a brief explanation of each category is provided below.

Literature
Poetry, Prose, Drama, Short Stories, Song Lyrics, Fiction and Non-Fiction

Musical Composition
Scores of original composition, with or without words, accompanied with CD, not exceeding five minuteshgh

Photography
Color or black and white prints or collage of photographic prints measuring up to 11×14 inches, including mat.

Visual Arts
Painting, drawing, collage, printmaking, needlework, computer art up to 20” x 24”

Dance/Choreography
DVD, not to exceed five minutes

Film/Video Production
All aspects of the film must be done by the student on DVD not to exceed five minutes.

How does the program work? Your child creates an original work of art in one of the six categories listed above. Each submitted piece will be forwarded to our local District for judging. District winners will move on to the State level. Reflections Program awards culminate with a national winner in each of the six categories. All Blythe Park entrants will be awarded a certificate and Reflection ribbon.  The student entry form is attached as well as a link to the rules for each category. If your child will be entering, please contact Lisa Gaynor for a copy of the detailed rules for their category of interest. All entries must be received to the school office by Friday, December 4th
