 This week is Teacher Appreciation Week! Blythe Park PTA will be “Taking Our Hats Off to Our Staff” with a really fun week of activities for the teachers and staff. The week will feature a special event each day. Check out the flyer below.

We are still looking for couple volunteers for food donations for Tuesday’s breakfast, Thursday’s Dip Day and Friday’s Luncheon as well as volunteers to help with set-up, clean-up and babysitting on Friday. Click on the SignUp Genius button below to sign-up.
Also, if you did not RSVP for the Luncheon taking place on Friday, please return your RSVP in the blue envelope as soon as possible. If your not planning on donating a food item, a monetary donation would be greatly appreciated, $5 is suggested.

During the month of May, each Blythe Park student will be taking part in an Artist-in-Residence project. The project will be working to create the three tree stumps that sit right outside the entrance to Blythe at the K-2 doors into something beautiful to greet all the guests that visit Blythe Park.
The artists at the Riverside Art Center have designed a very cool “mushroom garden”. Each student will be creating a mosaic piece to include in this garden. We need your help! We have to collect enough bottle caps for every student at Blythe Park by Thursday, May 12th. So, please make sure to save and send in a bottle cap for your child.
What type of bottle caps? Check out this pictures. The more varied sizes and colors the better. So, collect and send them into the school office.

 This Thursday, Ms. Gorman will be hold a Parent Information Night about the possibility of a LADSE classroom being housed at Blythe Park for the upcoming school. To learn more about the proposed LADSE program and how it will operate at Blythe Park, please make sure to attend the meeting being held in the library at 6:30pm on Thursday, May 5th. A summary of the proposal is detailed below.
Proposed ProgramThe La Grange Area Department of Special Education (LADSE) has approached the District 96 Board of Education about the possibility of housing a classroom in District 96. Given our district has students enrolled in various LADSE programs, they often solicit partner districts to provide spaces for their classes. The idea was introduced in a presentation to the Board of Education at the April meeting. At the May Board of Education meeting, members of our board will vote on a proposal to house a classroom for the 2016-2017 school year. Given the current facility space available, Blythe Park is the school proposed to accommodate this program. The proposed classroom will support kindergarten through 3rd grade students with autism/communication disabilities, several of whom are District 96 students. Since LADSE will be renting the space from District 96, the classroom will have its own staff and administration and function similar to a “school within a school”.

Please have your runners/walkers dressed appropriately for the activity and the weather and be ready to go at 7:45am. The students will join Ms. Gorman and Mr. Bartelt in a run or walk around the Blythe Park Campus. Four laps around the school equals one mile. Students will be tracked with the goal of completing an incremental marathon. Parents are welcome to join as well.
 District 96 is excited to announce online student registration for the 2016-17 school year! This process replaces the paper forms sent home at the beginning of each school year. Mark your calendars for the Gail Goletz ACES Walk on May 20th at 11:25am. Project ACES (All Children Exercise Simultaneously) was created by physical education teacher Len Saunders in 1989 as a method of motivating children to exercise. Nationally, ACES takes place on the first Wednesday in May as part of National Physical Fitness and Sports Month along with National Physical Education Week. Since 1989, millions of children from all over the world exercise together on this day to promote proper health and fitness habits. Gail Goletz brought this idea to Blythe Park with the annual ACES walk. We choose a day in May (not necessarily the first Wednesday, but rather a day that works for the Blythe Park schedule) for all the students to participate in a one mile walk around the Blythe Park neighborhood during the lunch hour. When Mrs. Goletz retired a couple of years ago, we decided to honor her legacy of promoting fitness among students by naming our walk the Gail Goletz ACES Walk. Please come out and join our group on May 20th!

 Over the course of this year, a committee has been working on reviewing and updating Blythe Park PTA’s standing rules. A PTA has two documents that guide their organization in conducting business – our bylaws and our standing rules. The standing rules outline the procedures of the association with specific details that are not included in the bylaws.
