weekly wrap up + elopement in paris

P+C tie the knot (in paris) from Peter in Motion on Vimeo.

The San Francisco City Hall elopement video we ran last year has remained a favorite of mine. I’ll never forget genuinely crying when I watched a couple that I didn’t even know exchange vows (with their voices removed, just music and images) and look so very happy. I know so many other people were moved by their ceremony, but I didn’t expect to be blown away again by another couple who were inspired by this very video!

Chen and Peter got engaged this March after dating for ten years. Chen had bookmarked the video above after seeing it last November and remembered it when they decided to tie the knot. They knew a traditional wedding wasn’t for them and that their love of travel adventures was a big part of their life, so they decided to have a “wedding for two” rather than an elopement (they told their family and friends ahead of time). Peter is a television editor so the idea of creating a video similar to April and Jeremy’s was perfect. Their whirlwind trip to Paris included visiting all sorts of romantic spots around town and renting bikes in a moment that reminds me of my favorite scenes from Amelie. Chen and Peter had a beautiful ceremony and then came home where Peter edited this video as a gift for his wife.

I think this is such a beautiful and sweet moment and am thankful that Chen and Peter offered to share it with us here today. Here’s wishing them a lifetime of happiness. xo, grace (P.S.- Bravo on the music choice, Peter)

Below is a summary of this week’s highlights:

in the kitchen with: giao trac’s chinese chicken salad with spicy ginger dressing

Giao Trac’s Vietnamese Spring Rolls were such a hit with readers last year that I thought it was time we checked in with her to see if she had any other treats up her sleeve. Sure enough, she came back with Chinese Chicken Salad with Spicy Ginger Dressing, one of her favorite quick, light meals. Though we don’t normally do leafy salads unless they are out of the ordinary, I like Giao’s idea because of the secret ingredient. There’s no surprise to the salad part; the magic is all in the dressing. Keep some on hand to toss vegetables in, as a sandwich dressing or anything else you like! — Kristina

About Giao (rhymes with ciao!): Giao was born in Vietnam, raised in Chicago and now calls Northern California home. She is a freelance photographer specializing in food, travel and editorial assignments. In her spare time, she chronicles her culinary adventures on her food photography blog, Kiss My Spatula, and tells stories about blending the scents and memories of her eastern heritage along with new ingredients and flavors of her western upbringing.

we like it wild: inspiration yosemite

We just returned from our annual Yosemite getaway, and our minds are still frolicking in the sunny meadows and on shadowy forest paths. People often ask us where we get our ideas for different color palettes and texture combinations — here’s one place! We put a collection of flowers together this week inspired by the soft grasses, purplish mountains, wild berries and pods, and feathery friends that caught our eye on the trip. Check out our tips on how to translate the feeling of your favorite places into decor for your next event after the jump! — Studio Choo

airstream trailers on vintage seekers

Even though I appreciate that it’s far more efficient for us to fly everywhere for the D*S Book Tour (full dates and details coming next week), part of me wishes we could drive in a tour bus. Or, even better, an airstream trailer. I know Amy and I would probably want to punch each other by the time we hit the Midwest, but it seems like such a fun way to see the country.

Vintage Seekers recently added a stunning series of original restored Airstream trailers to their collection and this one with the leather seating and walnut detailing is calling my name. In addition to this beauty, Vintage Seekers also has an adorable (and rare) 1963 Bambi trailer, of which there are less than 10 in the world (apparently Johnny Depp and MoMA own the others). I’d personally be happy to catch a ride across country in either of these. Sure, it would take a lot longer than a plane, but it sure beats white-knuckling it through turbulence on 40+ flights. rablabs

This morning I’ve got a little kitchen/entertaining themed shoot happening at my house. It’s supposed to be taking place in the fall so I spent most of yesterday afternoon trying to track down linens, plates and accessories that were rich jewel tones. Most stores are still in their end-of-summer phase, so it was tough to find fall-appropriate colors, but these pieces from RabLabs would have been perfect. Anna Rabinowicz from RabLabs is set to debut some beautiful new pieces at next week’s Gift Fair, but these pieces from her current collection are always on my mind. I love the chunk quartz pieces and the colorful agate. They were out of my price range for today’s shoot, but if you’re looking for some colorful entertaining or decorating pieces, these would be perfect. Click here to check out and shop the full collection online. xo, grace
